Trivia/Info

  • Although it did not have a standalone release, this track was described in some promotional material as the single from the album It's Fun To Steal.
  • The version on It's Fun To Steal runs slightly faster than the one on The Steve Calhoon Years. They are otherwise exactly identical.
  • John Flansburgh: "[This song] is also a strange composite of true stories, but everybody knows some story like this."
  • From monopuff.org:
The Mono Puff song "Backstabbing Liar" can be heard in the motion picture The Rage: Carrie 2. The song is heard for a good 30 seconds to a minute during the film, which is longer than any pervious [sic] occurrence of a They Might Be Giants song in a movie. As it turns out, a Bar/None representative pulled some strings to have the song appear in the film. Oddly enough, the song was not included on the actual movie soundtrack.
