Ugh. I feel like an idiot. I tried to get back on the chat, and something kept popping up about my username already being in use. :/ Help? please? - CuppaCoffee

You must've timed out but remained connected...or something. Try connecting with a different username (CuppaCoffee1 or something) and it'll fix itself within an hour or two, then you can change back. :) -CapitalQtalk ♪ 02:28, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Um, I'm having the same problem, it says my username is already in use, and I haven't been on sence yesterday someone please help me. DarkSideOfTheSchwartz
I think that happens when you use the web application on the site and just close the browser window/tab when you are done instead of clicking the [X] in the upper right corner. I guess the server thinks you are still logged on or have a connection to it or something. You can prevent this by clicking the [X] or (because the close and settings buttons weren't appearing for me in IE6 for some reason) you can type "/quit" before leaving. That is without the quotes, of course. Also: just a general message to folks, many common usernames are already claimed by people on DALnet, so don't be miffed if "John" or something is already registered and you have to change your username. --badqueso 09:25, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Cool! Didn't know there was a TMBW chat on IRC.

But I have a question (and I know nothing about how these chat things or how they work) -- is there any way to use the IRC chat under the tmbw.net domain for some channel OTHER THAN tmbw.net chat? I just went to the script or whatever for the chat page, and I found something that said nph-irc.cgi?serv=punch.va.us.dal.net&chan=%23tmbw&nick=Magbatz&interface=nonjs&R=ndu7daood where I'm guessing I could type in another channel name in place of tmbw and another name in for magbatz, but honestly I have no clue because of all those other funky things in there. So basically, if what I just said made no sense (which is probably the case), my question is: can you access other chats using tmbw.net? ~ magbatz 12:38, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Sure...what happens is it logs you in using your tmbw userid, and defaults you to the #tmbw channel. But, I don't think there is anything that stops you from going to another channel. Keep in mind though, that the client is running on our server, so you're using our bandwidth (not that it is a big deal). --Duke33 13:48, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Oh, good point. I was gonna use it for an online chat for me and a bunch of other kids at my school at tmbw.net (since all the other chat sites are blocked), but I think I'll spare TMBW the trouble of hundreds of kids clogging up the site. I guess I'm just nice like that :P

Mibbit[edit]

I moved away from the old CGI client to this new service i found called Mibbit. It seems pretty slick so far. Everyone give it a shot, and give me your feedback. Thanks --Duke33 18:34, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

It seems nice and slick. The best part is that it quits when the window with the client closes so you don't get that ghosting effect. --badqueso 01:28, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

I just tried to connect again, and i got this message: Closing Link: 0.0.0.0 (A-banned: [AKILL ID:1264524712K-9e] [exp/comp] Compromised host, go to http://kline.dal.net/exploits/akills.htm (2010/01/26 17.25))

So I logged in again, and it said "You are banned from DAL.net" then the Terminated popped up.
i get a similar response when trying to connect to dal from the mibbit client on mibbit's site. i would suggest a proper irc client, which provide many functions of convenience as well as advanced features. i personally highly recommend XChat (the free windows version is called YChat, for Macs, X-Chat Aqua), but mIRC (shareware) is also a popular choice. --ant 17:03, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

would anyone have any objections if we moved #tmbw to another network? dal is very slow, very unreliable, and is often difficult to get help on. i realise not many folks here actually use our channel, but still. --ant 05:15, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Nobody is ever on the chat! Did TMBW find a new chat?--PUPPET HEAD

the chat has never been super busy. the people who do come just aren't there all the time. and although i am there pretty much all the time, i'm just not necessarily checking irc 24/7. --ant 18:12, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Discord?[edit]

I know this hasn't been updated in over a decade, and options back then were pretty much IRC or bust, but now there are lots of new options available, and I'm wondering if it would be worth it to set up a Discord server for all our TMBG-related chat?

I think it might also be possible there to set up bots that can answer questions from the wiki or announce upcoming shows and such (though I'm not certain, don't quote me on that).

Any interest?

--El (talk) 11:23, 7 June 2022 (EDT)

there are tmbg discord servers out there, i'm sure they're findable if you ask around. the official tmbw chat is going to remain irc for the forseeable future. --ant 12:14, 7 June 2022 (EDT)
To be fair, IRC was already extremely outmoded when #tmbw was established, but somehow it still seems to befit the vibe of the core wiki crowd (and I don't think the IRC regulars, few as they are, have any problem with the format - see above). A TMBW-centric Discord is not an inherently bad idea and could be a fun, albeit time-consuming experiment to explore - but I will say my personal experience with TMBG Discord servers is that they're either on-topic and basically dead from inactivity, or dominated by (much) younger fans and 99% off-topic. Not ruling it out, but it's a tough balance to strike! -CapitalQtalk ♪ 12:36, 7 June 2022 (EDT)

at the moment the kiwiirc client seems to be having some issues, i'm not sure why. but #tmbw is always accessible from a desktop client. --ant 20:02, 7 June 2022 (EDT)
Oh, well, that explains it. And here I was thinking it was just dead and thinking I had a reasonable solution to suggest on a talk page that hadn't been touched in 11 years. :) --El (talk) 21:31, 7 June 2022 (EDT)
I'm sure there are many TMBG Discord servers but only one right now is semi-active. Shouldn't be too hard to find a link somewhere. If you'd like I can put a link on your talk page. I'm also open to email! Be cautious, though, there are a few, let's say, "strange" people in there. TitanicFog (talk) 17:39, 8 June 2022 (EDT)
