Pere Ubu
From This Might Be A Wiki
Pere Ubu is a self described "avant-garage" new wave band formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1975 by David Thomas, Peter Laughner, Tom Herman, Tim Wright, Scott Krauss, and Allen Ravenstein. The group's name comes from a character in Ubu Roi, Père Ubu (French for "father Ubu"). The group has this to say of selecting a band name:
(1) It shouldn't mean anything but it should seem to mean something, i.e. bestow Mystery; (2) It needs to look good and sound good; and (3) It should have three syllables.
Pere Ubu frequently opened for TMBG in 1993. During its history, the group has included both Tony Maimone and Garo Yellin, who have also performed alongside TMBG.
