Trivia/Info

  • This was likely recorded as early as 1984, as the TMBG Unlimited MP3 of the 1984 "They Might Be Giants" demo features a tiny bit of this song, heard fading out at the very start of the MP3. On the podcast, Flansburgh states that the song comes from a 1985 demo tape, but he mentioned in a tweet promoting the podcast that it was from 1984.
  • The drums on this song are lifted directly from DrumDrops Volume 1 by David Crigger and Joey D. Vieira. It samples the first track, Fast Disco, and can be listened to here.
  • Dial-A-Song recordings of this song have sparser percussion than the one in Podcast 48, notably lacking the shaken tambourine heard during the ending of the Podcast version.
  • The lyrics "Top of the heap / Kings of all we survey" may be a reference to lyrics from Theme from New York, New York: "I wanna wake up in a city / That doesn't sleep / And find I'm king of the hill / Top of the heap".
  • Before its release on Podcast 48, this song was usually referred to by fans as "Hiya" or "Hi".
