Talk:We Live In A Dump (Podcast Version)

From This Might Be A Wiki

This is one of my favorite Flansburgh songs. If I had any doubts about Flans losing his touch before, they are gone.--tehbagel 15:10, 5 Apr 2006 (CDT)

Name

HA! i knew it was going to be called we live in a dump! *shifty eyes* and you said it would be "why be realistic"!

No, I didn't. I just named it that. I never said Flansburgh did. -CapitalQtalk ♪ 18:10, 4 Apr 2006 (CDT)
Lol, Capital, you gotta lighten up. He was just joking. You're too young to take yourself so seriously! =P Anyway, it sounds like the Podcast version is the exact same as the dial a song version, save for the quality. --tehbagel 20:20, 4 Apr 2006 (CDT)
I wasn't trying to sound mean, I was just saying that I didn't say it was going to be called 'Why Be Realistic', it was just my name for it. :D Anyway, the two versions have different instrumentations, check out the chronology page for the differences. Sorry for sounding a bit angry if I did. >_> -CapitalQtalk ♪ 20:35, 4 Apr 2006 (CDT)

Legality Question

Are mp3s of Dial-A-Song illegal? I got a low-qual recording of this song in case people don't want to call -AtionSong 22:01, 29 Mar 2006 (CST)

i don't think so because either way you listen for free, but really half of the song experiance comes from calling... and calling.. and waiting... and getting mad at busy signals... until you get through and are like YES I WIN.-User:appleheart 23:57, 29 Mar 2006 (EST)

No, it's not free. The joke "free if you call from work" is that you don't have to pay phone bills for your office. Calling Dial-A-Song has the same cost as calling from wherever you are to Brooklyn. -AtionSong 09:41, 30 Mar 2006 (CST)
Nor is the internet. And yet, you're using it, no? In any case, appleheart was saying, "let them experience dial-a-song themselves". I agree. Just getting through is refreshing. Plus the songs are usually pre-demo quality. -134.48.103.32 15:51, 30 Mar 2006 (GMT)
Dial-A-Song is free. However, depending on where you live or your phone plan, you may have to pay for the long distance. -CapitalQtalk ♪ 10:09, 30 Mar 2006 (CST)

Hey, wasn't there an mp3 on this page? Was it removed due to the reasons above? Because it seems to be off DAS now... (Turnip) 21:12, 30 Mar 2006 (CST)

It doesn't seem like there was ever an MP3 on this page, but I have a very clear rip of the song, but I'm not sure how everyone would feel about it being uploaded right now. FrankEinstein 02:25, 31 Mar 2006 (EST)
There was an MP3, and it was removed due to the fact that the song will probabaly turn up soon on Clock Radio, a podcast or an album/EP. Distributing an MP3 of the song at that point would obviously be illegal, even if the file is only telephone-quality. If the song doesn't pop up again for a long time, or this turns out to just be a demo version of a future song, it may be posted again. -CapitalQtalk ♪ 06:10, 31 Mar 2006 (CST)

I guess it can go back up since it is just a demo. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 09:13, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

If the Podcast 48 version is slightly different...

We Live In A Dump (Podcast Version 2)? SamuelMan36 16:53, 9 July 2011 (EDT)

If only the ending is different and it's the same recording, no. I think it's the same recording and the end had a glitchy sound that wasn't part of the track. Whether it was intentional or not, I don't know. -- DidgeGuy (आ ज)
This version has a slightly different sounding vocal to it, and at one point in this new one Flans says "someone kicked me.." instead of "they kicked me.." as it is in Podcast 6A. Also parts of the instrumentation sound a bit less prominent to me.
Listen to the certain parts of this song. Podcast 6A has guitar (and some piano too), 48 has piano. SamuelMan36 19:26, 9 July 2011 (EDT)

The version in 48 is the original demo, as Cecil states. I've compared recordings and updated the wiki to reflect this. -CapitalQtalk ♪ 23:34, 9 July 2011 (EDT)
