Talk:I Was Dancing In The Lesbian Bar

From This Might Be A Wiki

Cover Me Bad

The Giants have a pretty good record on cover versions. Lady is a Tramp; One more parade; Savoy Truffle; Havelina; Through being Cool being great examples. The problem with covers is that do you replicate or innovate? The former is easy, the later very difficult. I was dancing in the lesbian bar is a perfectly good cover version, but, it's not as good as the original (which crucially was not Jonathan's best work anyway). So, unfortunately it's a song you listen too once and then that's it. Not a patch on Savoy Truffle where Linnell's innovative slacker delivery and slower tempo turns a White Album filler into a killer!

Having bought the 52 weeks I'm disturbed by two things. 1) That I've only bothered to download 3 songs thus far, as the quality has been so variable 2) That I wasted my money when they're going straight onto Spotify. Flans. What would Taylor Swift do? That's all I'm saying. (Mr Tuck)

I'd say the cover is better than the orginal. The arrangement is much tighter, and TMBG are prepared to really commit to the funk, whereas Richman sounds like he's only being ironic. -- 152.76.1.244 03:55, 2 October 2020 (EDT)

Sounds like...

I'm hearing a strong resemblance to Electronic Istanbul (Not Constantinople), which is interesting because TMBG didn't write either song. :-) --MisterMe (talk) 16:13, 27 February 2015 (EST)

the original better?

HELLO TMBW IT'S BEEN QUITE AWHILE SINCE YOU'VE HEARD FROM ME

I like the original more. It has a cleaner sound. It's on my main Spotify playlist (it's the guitar, I swear!)

Also, why the fuck does Flansburgh yell out "Marty"?
