Paleontologist
It's about a paleontologist who digs up bones and puts them in a museum. Yep. Perspixx 08:38, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
I agree with Perspixx
What the user Perspixx posted is dead-on. The song is definitely about a paleontologist digging up bones and putting them in a museum. The lyrics may be a bit cryptic but if you take your time to think about them, this is definitely what they're about.
My theory
“I am a paleontologist/ That's who I am, that's who I am, that's who I am” This may seem simple at first, but it is so much more. Look at that second half. ”That’s who I am“. This line is a commentary on capitalism. You may say that he might just really love paleontology, but I don’t think so. He is forced to be a paleontologist against his wishes, because of the system. He says that he loves digging in the dirt, but that’s just because the system has conditioned him to love it. I Am A Paleontologist is a song about the capitalist system disguised as a song about paleontology. But wait, “all of the kids who want to see them”? This is all coming together! As long as the kids want to see the fossils, they won’t let them go. I Am A Paleontologist is a song about kids controlling the economy.
