Interpretations:Dig My Grave

From This Might Be A Wiki

Interpretation 1

If I had to guess, I'd say this is about the narrator wanting to kill someone they hate. St.Peter, and angels have both been known to tell people to kill demons. the DIG MY GRAVE is the other person's line, not the singers, so he's tempted to murder. --chapmanbobby 18:14, December 2, 2004

Interpretation 2

St. Peter guards the gates of heaven, so the line "every time I look in your eyes I see St. Peter wave" could mean that the narrator sees his own death in those eyes. The next verse implies virtually the same thing--he hears the angels (death) beckoning him when the other person calls his name. I don't think it goes any deeper than the narrator singing about an enemy that wants him dead. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.145.123.240 (talk) 19:36, March 15, 2005

Heavy metal parody

I think it's even a parody of other heavy metal songs. In those songs, the singer believes that he will triumph, and so the other person should dig his own grave (metaphorically). In this song, however, the singer believes that he will lose the fight, and asks for the other person to dig his grave (metaphorically, by killing him, and possibly literally). It's a reverse of the normal cocky pattern in these types of songs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.25.8.95 (talk) 22:07, March 15, 2005

Interpretation 4

Sounds to me like he's about to get his ass kicked. Because when he looks into the guy's eyes he sees St. Peter. When the guy says his name he hears the angels singing. Probably an exaggeration on how much the guys going to hurt him. Or, possibly a vicious girlfriend. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.64.204.222 (talk) 19:56, August 6, 2005

I don't think it's a vicious girlfriend, but I do think it's sung to a girl rather than a guy ("every time I look in your eyes..."). I don't think it's about anyone specifically out to whup his ass or do him physical harm, I think it's more of an unsettling feeling. Another Twilight Zoney lyric. He perhaps feels trapped and suffocated in his relationship. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.107.17.139 (talk) 19:09, February 16, 2006

Twisted love song

It's funny, until I read all of these interpretations, I always thought this was a twisted love song. --Salioshy 21:25, June 18, 2008

Interpretation 6

I could really be wrong on this, but I think this is a guy telling a girl that he likes that she reminds him of an angel. "Everytime I look in your eyes I see St. Peter wave" he's saying that every time he looks in her eyes he thinks of heaven. "Every time you call my name I hear the angels say" he's saying that whenever she says his name he hears angels. And this whole time he's saying "Dig My Grave" another way of saying that this relationship reminds him of death and heaven.

Another bad relationship

He's just saying "being with you makes me wish I was dead"... a perennial theme. --Nehushtan (talk) 11:36, 2 December 2019 (EST)

Integration 7

i think it's like the subject is showing false respect to the singer and the singer is telling them to drop the act and have the guts to "dig my grave" already. "we both know you actually want to whoop my ass, so get on it already - DIG MY GRAVE!" --Ncrecc (talk) 18:53, 21 June 2022 (EDT)
