- John Flansburgh explained the song's recording on Tumblr in 2024:
I believe the "clap" and "kick" sounds were just things I dialed in and played by hand on JL's [Micromoog]. The kick might have even just been a thumb on the top of a Shure 57 microphone which for a period we found to be the best sounding kick emulation we could muster (surprisingly thumpy).
