Seems to me that the opening is a direct quote of the song "One Tin Soldier." Not worth noting? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.57.150.68 (talk) 10:30, October 25, 2017

:It is very similar, and even the overall melody has a resemblance to that One Tin Soldier. I've asked Flans on Tumblr if there is any connection, but you never know if he'll actually confirm the connection or even respond. :Update--Holy cow, Flans answered me directly! Looks like it didn't post to the general TMBGareOK Tumblr account, so here is his response: "We certainly know the song, but never considered any big parallels. Just kind of a classic folk tale/folk song opening line." --MisterMe (talk) 08:30, 6 December 2017 (EST)

Now that I'm a Dad I'm probably listening to the kids stuff the most! Pirate Girls 9 is pretty darn good in my opinion. I've talked about Flans feminism before, but here it's great, because my daughter can be a pirate. Great lyrics and melody. It really stands up to repeat listens. One of the best songs they've done in this genre! (Mr Tuck)

Quote[edit]

Seems to me that the opening is a direct quote of the song "One Tin Soldier." Not worth noting? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.57.150.68 (talk) 10:30, October 25, 2017

It is very similar, and even the overall melody has a resemblance to that late-'60s/early-'70s protest song. I've asked Flans on Tumblr if there is any connection, but you never know if he'll actually confirm the connection or even respond. But that's a good catch in any case! --MisterMe (talk) 12:10, 5 December 2017 (EST)
