Talk:Wu-Tang
Giants by Numbers[edit]
Musically it sounds like an 90s indie pop take on a 50s tune. Lyrically, it's about the Wu Tang Clan...But it could be about Freddie and the Dreamers for all the lyrics matter. When you're on your 103rd album (or whatever this one is) it's hard to not repeat yourself and this sounds like something recorded in 1995 that wouldn't have made Factory Showroom. Interestingly, is that this is the second Linnell single in a row that's written very much with the band in mind and performing it live. With Eyeball already released do we really need two of those guys? And the answer is probably, no. Hoping for more variety on the new (terribly titled) new album which simultaneously has the best ever they might be giants cover!
Interestingly (well for me anyway), the one song of the new releases that I can't get enough of is Peggy Guggenheim, which I think is brilliant and I would love to see played live. Hoping for more horns on the long player, as we used to call them. I think it's time the band retired the chopped metronome power chords and higher register power chorus for new songs. It's easy to slip into a song that's Giants by numbers like Wu Tang. (Mr Tuck) 10:02, February 10, 2026
Now I'm desperate to hear the opposite. A song from Wu-Tang Clan about They Might Be Giants. Then my life will be complete. P.S. This song is very-much inspired by XTC's poppy upbeat style, with the colorful bassline and cheery rhythm guitars. Listen to "Mayor of Simpleton" by XTC and you will see what I mean.
