Talk:Videos Directed By John Flansburgh
SO i think this list is pretty cool/relevant/useful/neat/expandable/archival/other good things! but i'm not sure that, in its current state, it warrants its own page? it's my feeling that it could possibly be incorporated into the article for John Flansburgh or general music videos (or something else?), or perhaps it could be fleshed out somehow (not really sure how at this point but i don't doubt that there's a way to elaborate on flans' awesomeness). or maybe i am just wrong and this is totally fine the way it is! but either way i do also think there should be links to each video (when available), or something like that. so yeah i thought i would just say those things. -Apollo (colloquia!) 13:34, 24 May 2012 (EDT)
I CONCUR![edit]
It's funny, I was thinking about the videos today, and the first place I went was here -- and the Flansburgh page, and then search for it, but no go. So I figured I'd just throw something up really really quick after doing a bit of my own research. But yeah -- I could definitely see this rolled into the Flans page (or video page or somethin'!), I was just kinda surprised the info wasn't in one lumped-together chunk. SO I FIXED THAT KINDA. - Rev. Syung Myung Me 22:52, 24 May 2012 (EDT)
- I want to say that the list of videos he directed USED to be a part of the regular Flansburgh bio page, but was removed at some point in the distant past. But yeah, I have been thinking about this a lot recently because I've spent a lot of time this week watching the super-trippy "Hang On To Your Ego" vid and was trying to remember all the other things he'd done. I think the list of things he's directed definitely needs to be maintained SOMEWHERE on the wiki, if only for reference's sake, because this is also a thing I have looked for on the wiki in the past and was unable to find. -J-Gatz 01:20, 25 May 2012 (EDT)
- curiously, as i recall (from history-browsing), the johns' pages used to just be series of lists. anyway here's a thing i typed up an hour ago and then forgot re: matt:
- WELL you've done good (and well, i'd say), and really, having thought a bit more about it, i'm not really sure whether or not it should go somewhere else or just stay here. i mean, there are other sort of list-y pages (possibly), and while my personal tmbw philosophy is "do it like wikipedia does it but less like wikipedia does it", i'm having a tough time deciding what would be proper here. i mean maybe give it more time to grow. here's a table
pros cons convenient not sure it needs a page of its own format is good could be better suited to enhance another page flans is just so cool still probably needs a bit of work (actually a pro) not really wasting space or anything forced me to make a dumb table sure it looks official but really i'm just being a prick
- so there's that -Apollo (colloquia!) 01:33, 25 May 2012 (EDT)
- Since it is a relatively large list, grafting it onto either the list of videos (which is already pretty big) or Flansburgh's bio page could get sort of clunky and cluttered. I think keeping it as a separate page and then linking to it from both of those pages might be the most organizationally sound option. I know I have read snippets of interviews where Flans and Frank Black talked about the making of the "Los Angeles" video, so if the page is inadequate in its current state, maybe it could be expanded with info about the making of the videos themselves. Or something. (I don't know, just throwing it out there.) -J-Gatz 14:13, 25 May 2012 (EDT)
Page Name[edit]
I have no problem with this page's existence. However, I am not a fan of the Wikipedia "List of..." naming style. How about we just change this to "Videos Directed By John Flansburgh" ? Any objections before I do it? --Duke33 15:23, 25 May 2012 (EDT)
- I support this idea. There are no other pages with "List of.." on this wiki, and it should be moved at least for consistency's sake.--Oldpinebox 19:05, 25 May 2012 (EDT)
- Ditto -- I wasn't sure what the proper protocol was, so I figured, when in doubt, rip off WP. So that works! Rev. Syung Myung Me 00:52, 26 May 2012 (EDT)
Ajax Digital Design[edit]
Should all of these videos be added? I know there were other flansburgh imovie slideshow videos that predated modern dial-a-song, but these have a specific "created by" credit (and are of slightly higher quality)... -OldpineboxTalk 18:49, 31 August 2020 (EDT)
