Talk:This Day In TMBG History/March

From This Might Be A Wiki

Regarding Constantinople/Istanbul: while March 28 might be *an* official change, the city was known as Istanbul for centuries before that (with no "this" date, as far as I can tell). This date was just a rubber-stamp, really.

Very true. There were plenty of iterations/translations of the name in regular use before (click here). I thought the 28th date was meaningful in that there was actually a governmental act to change it "officially," such that Istanbul was no longer Constantinople, to paraphrase the beloved song. :-) --MisterMe 13:05, 23 May 2012 (EDT)
