Talk:The Blackouts

From This Might Be A Wiki

The Blackouts had a single in late 1982 "Exchange Of Good" b/w "Industry" but this might have been recorded before their move to Boston. They also made a video for the song "Idiot" around the same time in which the members apparently are in nothing but loincloths and covered in oil and ashes and recorded an ep, Lost Soul's Club, after being in Boston. There may be mention or appearance of Flans in these, though lack of mention does not necessarily mean he wasn't in this The Blackouts. Krueger 04:28, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Was this the same Blackouts or one of the other bands with the same name mentioned in the article? Do you have links to more info about the single, video, and/or EP? Drew (talk)
I would ask User:Trig Jegman on their user talk page :P TitanicFog (talk) 10:13, 22 July 2022 (EDT)
Did a quick Discogs search and that's definitely the same band. TitanicFog (talk) 22:12, 22 July 2022 (EDT)
Are you sure? Flansy, Dan Spock, Chel White, Dan Julty, Karl Hecksher--none of them are listed on the Discogs page. With no apparent crossover in band members, it seems more likely to be one of the other bands with the same name mentioned in the last paragraph of the TMBW Blackouts page, the one that included Paul Barker of Ministry, not the band JF was part of. It seems more likely that this is the band John was in since their song on the compilation album listed is "2 Points," mentioned on TMBW, a version of which can be heard here. The same YouTube channel has three more Blackouts tracks, possibly from a release called "Burn-Out! with the Blackouts," and I can potentially hear John's voice in the others (which aren't just instrumentals), especially this one. The posting channel mentions in the comments for this one that they're not the same band. Unless, of course, he's wrong and I'm missing something. Drew (talk)
That's what I said. It's the same band as the one listed on the page (the one that moved from Seattle to Boston). TitanicFog (talk) 11:41, 23 July 2022 (EDT)
To add onto this, I'm willing to bet these uploads are the same Blackouts and that the "album art" is a show poster with "Burn-Out!" being another group they were performing with that night. The poster is very similar to those in the article. And the YouTube comments is just the other commenter being confused about the band, the uploader says they were an obscure band from Ohio. So overall we have:
Song called "Two Points"
The band is from Ohio
The songs are from 1980
The poster is very characteristic of the other Blackouts posters we have (same logo)
Singer that sounds like it could be Flans

Last message before anyone else posts I promise xD. Just wanted to point out that the logo on the poster matched the logo on one of the other posters. Also Two Points is mentioned in this article (somehow I missed that) I'm ready to officially declare its the same band. TitanicFog (talk) 12:24, 23 July 2022 (EDT)
So wait, are you saying that the band that moved from Ohio to Boston (which included Flans) and the band that moved from Seattle to Boston (which doesn't seem to include Flans) are both the same band? Because that's what my question was about. Krueger's original post seemed to be conflating the two, which is what I was questioning. Drew (talk)
No, theyre obviously different bands. Check Discogs, none of the members listed on this article are in the Seattle -> Boston band TitanicFog (talk) 14:39, 23 July 2022 (EDT)
That was my whole point!!! The OP was saying that they're the same band, and I asked if he was sure (because it didn't seem like it), and you replied, "that's definitely the same band." It didn't make any sense. Drew (talk)
I meant that as the band mentioned in the article and the Seattle band are the same, obviously these bands (band) are not the band Flans was in :P TitanicFog (talk) 18:49, 23 July 2022 (EDT)

I think someone needs to rewrite this page a bit, maybe? Right now it's just a series of blockquotes, which I guess is informative, but not very encyclopedic, not to mention pretty hard to digest. Anyone else have an opinion? -Apollo (colloquia!) 13:14, 29 August 2011 (EDT)
