Tuck Review[edit]
A solid start.
Greater experts will tell me if this is the shortest single they've ever released. It might just be. Quite an odd structure, Linnell sings the verse and Flans the chorus (such as it is), the verse almost feeling like the chorus, as it's so powerful. I'm less keen on the middle eight and feel it would have worked better if he'd switched to accordion rather than electronic piano. But it's only a minor gripe. Thank god, the band didn't bloat this out to 4 minutes as they might have done in the recent past. They're in and they're out in just over 2 mins. Interestingly, Spotify says that Flans wrote the lyrics (?). And ah yes, the lyrics. I'm sure someone's analysing them, and they work in terms of Linnell belting them out, but I can't help but wish the band would stop being so oblique. Something more emotionally direct and engaging would be welcome. However, great to hear something new from the band. A shout out to the stripped down Elegant Too (remix), they've obviously tired of the Giants chopped indie chords. This won't convert the unconvinced, but I like it. Fingers crossed for the album.
