A guide to adding to Archived Interviews[edit]
If you've looked at the page and think you've gotten the hang of it by example, you're probably correct. These are guidelines, not hard rules. I just thought I'd record the thought that went into the current formatting for clarity.
What belongs here[edit]
- Yes: Print (or web chat, or transcribed) interviews with extensive quotes from a band member and/or unique information.
- No: Articles which review the band or its music without original quotes or research.
- No: Show listings or show reviews. While we do archive that information, it goes on appropriate Shows pages.
- Yes, but: Web interviews that are still up on the original publisher's site can be added to the index as external links, but please don't upload the article text.
- Save the live page on the Wayback Machine or archive.is and place the archived link inside a <!-- HTML comment --> to make it easy to upload to the wiki if the page stops being available in the future!
Formatting a page[edit]
To upload an article, please use the Archived Article Template and name the new page using a YYYY-MM-DD Publication Name format. (If you don't have month or day information, just leave that part out. If the publication spans multiple months, use the first month of the period.)
If importing an article formerly archived on MuseumOfIdiots, you can upload the .html file (.ZIP on the TMBW discord) to this tool, set the radio buttons, and copy and paste to get a pre-filled header + pre-formatted article.
If importing an article formerly archived on Tabloidfootprints, the newspaper archive, or another source with a good-quality image scan and unique photos or layout, consider uploading the image to Category:Paper Archives and adding it to the top of the page (example).
Remember to preview and scroll down the page to look for broken formatting. Adding inter-wiki links to mentions of specific songs, releases, or shows helps future readers, and visiting those links may catch quotes or citations to your article which can be converted to a stable on-wiki link.
Formatting the index entry[edit]
In the appropriate year's table, add four lines like so:
|-class="JF JL Other" |Aug |12 |The New Yorker - "Urban Legends: The Do-It-Yourself Success of They Might Be Giants" (With Jamie Kitman)
- In the class=" " list, put any combination of "JL JF Other" to note who the interview talks to.
- 3-letter formatted month (Jan, Feb, Mar, etc) or period (Jun/Jul, Winter)
- Day of the month, if that's information you have, or leave this cell blank.
- Finally, link the article, with the following format:
- Publication title - "Article title"
- Add the name of any "other" interviewee in parentheses, if necessary.
