On Tour: They Might Be Giants, Lincoln & Mono Puff[edit]

TMBG Information Bulletin - September 1997

Back in the shed![edit]

While woodshedding this summer, TMBG has worked up a number of new tracks for their next album. Titles include "Doctor Worm," "A Stranger's Eye," "Triboro Bridge" (an instrumental spotlighting new drummer Dan Hickey), "I've Learned The Value Of Human Sacrifice," as well as current show staples "On The Drag," "Older," "They Got Lost," "I Am Not Your Broom," and "Counterfeit Faker." No recording sessions have been booked, but the band plans on going into the studio sometime in the winter. Meanwhile, Linnell has created fascinating eyeball-cam videos of "Doctor Worm" and "I Am Not Your Broom" that can be downloaded free of charge from www.tmbg.com.

Warning: Severe Tire Damage![edit]

Yes, Brooklyn's Ambassadors of Love will return to their apparently endless touring schedule this fall, performing on the East Coast from Sept. 4-15, and are out again from October 10 for a few weeks. The band will most likely be playing a weekly stand in NYC in November along with one-offs around the country.

John Flansburgh's Mono Puff Returns[edit]

TMBG's John Flansburgh has completed a second Mono Puff album, "It's Fun to Steal," and will be doing showcase shows in New York celebrating its completion. Web folk can check out sound bites of the new disc and find out more about the Puff at monopuff.org. Lincoln will be playing on the bill with Mono Puff at the Mercury Lounge on Sept.20, and the beloved Mike Viola's Candy Butchers will open on Sept. 19. Dates in Philadelphia and Washington DC are planned but unavailable as of press time.

Introducing Lincoln the band![edit]

No, they are not named after TMBG's second album, but this talented new band from NYC will be opening for the Giants in September and October. The band's sound incorporates a four piece rock band with a unique home-brew of electronic keyboard sounds and samples topped with the personal lyrics and distinctive vocal stylings of front man Chris Temple. Lincoln has been performing frequently in Manhattan for the last six months, and their new, self titled album has just been released by Slash/London Records. Featured tracks: "Blow," the strangely guileless "I Love You, I Miss You, I Wish You Were Dead," and "Basketball." Entertainment Weekly gave it an A- (and they don't like anything!)
"I really started writing songs for the same reason most people go into therapy" says the affable Temple. Chris originally hails from eastern PA and is the proud owner of a 1957 Suburban and '66 Pontiac LeMans. No word on which vehicle they put the crew in.
