joelindell's comment:
- This show was really fun. I had seen TMBG twice for regular shows in Minneapolis, but this was special because it was a one-off gig. During the main set, Linnell, Flansburgh, and Marty Beller (I believe, they did not introduce him) were joined by the fantastic house band, led by John Munson of Trip Shakespeare and Semisonic. He was joined by pedel steel great Joe Savage, Steve Roehm on vibraphone, singer Janey Winterbauer, and a drummer, whose name I can't find.
- Istanbul (Not Constantinople) was a highlight, with a long pedal steel solo by Savage setting the tone. Linnell played an actual grand piano, and Flansburgh played his powder-blue Telecaster.
- This show is available to download, and a video has also been posted at: http://minnesota.publicradio.org/radio/programs/wits/. The TMBG segment begins at approximately 21:43.
