I recall going to this show when I was a student at Ball State University. A few friends got tickets to see Hootie and the blowfish, and had some extras, and I wasn’t particularly interested. I asked who was opening, and to my astonishment, it was They Might be Giants. So I greedily accepted a ticket and a ride with the group.

It’s 2026 now, so I cannot remember any song that was played, but I do think it was John Henry heavy. They got a lot of time for an opener as I recall, and the Hootie show itself wasn’t too bad either.

I also recall the seating on the floor was just oddly placed, like someone was having a 5th grade graduation ceremony or something unspectacular like that. It was so noteworthy I remember that to this day.

Wish there was a set list somewhere, but that’s probably lost to the ages by now. But I enjoyed the show and was happy to see Them, and in the end, that’s all that really matters.
