Fan Recaps and Comments:

This show was part of the 1986 New Music Seminar, an annual music industry convention and festival designed to showcase emerging artists and attract interest from record labels. The four-day event ran from July 13 to 16, and involved more than 200 acts performing at venues across New York City.[1] The band also played the festival in 1985 and 1987.

Excerpt from "In 2 Local Clubs, 18 Bands From the Rock Underground" by Robert Palmer,
The New York Times, July 11, 1986:

The concentration of so many prominent bands in local clubs this weekend is a byproduct of the seventh annual New Music Seminar, which officially begins on Monday at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Manhattan and continues through the week. The seminar, originally a gathering of the independent wing of the music business, with limited major label participation, has grown larger and more inclusive year by year. It now attracts movers and shakers from every level of the music business. This year's showcase performances, which are taking place next week at the Felt Forum and other ample venues, are heavily weighted toward artists who have affiliations with the major labels. The seminar will include separate panel discussions for representatives of the corporate and the underground music business. Meanwhile, the most vital music will almost certainly be heard in the clubs.
Tonight, CBGB offers an eclectic bill, featuring the stripped-down urban rockabilly of the Ben Vaughn Combo, the innovative rock guitarist Vernon Reid, and two other bands — They Might Be Giants and the Graffics.
