The band performed at Congo Bill, an exclusive members-only club located on the fourth floor of Danceteria, separate from the venue's main performance space. Performing on the same night, in Danceteria's main space, were Butthole Surfers and Salem 66.
When discussing people who helped They Might Be Giants throughout their career in a 2026 inteview with Revolutions Per Movie, John Flansburgh recalled a story where American singer-songwriter Jules Shear helped to get the band a gig at Danceteria for the first time[1]:
[Jules Shear] got us a gig at Danceteria at a time when you had to be like − "double cool" to get a gig at Danceteria. We could've never gotten a gig at Danceteria, [but] he called and was like "Give these guys a gig." And [we were] like, "Woah, okay that's nice!"
