Raoul Rosenberg is a musician and performance artist and early '80s friend of the Johns. He had a ventriloquist act which Flansburgh described as "a post-humor thing. There were no jokes."[1] One of John and John's earliest performances was as a backing band for this ventriloquist act in 1982. The ventriloquist's dummy, named Julius, served as the lead singer for songs which Rosenberg had written.[2]
The band name They Might Be Giants was borrowed from the list of names which Rosenberg brainstormed for his ventriloquist's act; Rosenberg got the name from the film.[3] He appears in several interview segments of Gigantic.
