I think that the lines

"Hitting every pocket on my shirt, pants and overcoat And I'm hitting them again but I don't know where I put my notes Clearing my throat, and gripping the lectern I smile and face my audience Clearing his throat and smiling with his hands on the bathroom sink"

are about a guy standing infront of the mirror practicing giving a speech and when he grabs the "lectern" and faces his "audience" he just sees himself in the bathroom mirror gripping the sink.

Just my interpretation.

I have a different interpretation of the same line the song is more about a man with a pain killer addiction "i ate 47 so what happened to the other 10" standing in front of the mirror thinking he's giving a speech may be one of his drug induced hazes i always thought this song would have been a perfect tribute to Rush Limbaugh -- god he's such a 'big fat idiot' -- had it come out after Rush revealed his addiction problem. especially from the repeated "i'm not done and i won't be till my head falls off" because he never shuts up. while the character in the song will continue taking pain killers till his head falls off. -shiner
