i might get shot down for this... but i think "maine" is porn, this song is about addiction
here are the parts that seem to directly apply
"Reclining in the bear trap of its tender, warm embrace" indulging in an addiction is familiar and even comforting at times but really its a bear trap
"Maine Is the world that went south" addictions usually start with something innocent, then they go south
"Maine at the top of the chart/Has crushed my evil heart" addictions take over and depress the spirits
"I love you anyway" addicts know the harm the addiction causes yet they return again and again
"And give me back my evil heart so I can see you as you aren't" addictions turn logic inside out and tearing ones self away can help the addict see the way the addiction pretended to fill a need.
"Is the poison you love" pretty obvious the addiction acts as a poison
"glazed with excitement and dread" how one feels before indulging
"exhausted from over sleep" i think this phrase was meant to be oxymoronic but when you stay up all night watching porn and then over sleep you are exhausted.
"awake but still in bed" p addicts often indulge when they are supposed to be sleeping
so thats my take on it. fire away
- BANG!
