Interpretation 1[edit]
I suspect this isn't literally about being in hell, but it's another song like "Now that I have everything" where the subject is unfulfilled even as he enjoys the fruits of sucess.
Some of the elements of the song ("fighting words", "mean streak" and "the big boss man" for example) suggest he might have gotten to the top through organised crime or a similar path which makes his emptyness more personally troubling.
The line about "Soap on a Rope" could suggest that the subject has wondered whether he deserves to die or should kill himself.
Possibly it is the subject's own guilt which prevents him from enjoying his wealth.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.39.158.51 (talk) 07:12, February 7, 2008
