- John Flansburgh on this song: "[We probably recorded it in] 1984. I think it was one of the burst of songs we did right as Dial-A-Song started up. We never played it live, but it was in rotation on the machine for a long time."[1] It was known to have aired on Dial-A-Song as early as 1989[2], and has not seen a release outside of the service.
- "That ad" refers to a comic book ad for the Charles Atlas fitness program, in which a boy has sand kicked in his face.
