We just did this amazingly huge remake of a song from the 1964 World Fair called "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" that is going to be in an animated feature based on the book "A Day for Wilbur Robinson." It's totally orchestral with a soprano singing this Theremin-like line behind my vocal. It's really a nutty piece of arrangement.
- Flansburgh also discussed the track in a 2005 interview with DVD Talk Radio, mentioning the film's working title and its initial release date of 2006:
There's a song that's gonna be in a movie that'll be released next summer called "A Day for Wilbur Robinson", which is [a] CG movie. We're doing a cover of this hilariously over-orchestrated song called "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" that was a part of the '64 World's Fair in the "Tomorrow-Land" exhibit. It sounds almost like it's from a Danny Kaye movie from 1951 or something, it's got this very old-fashioned quality to it.
- Despite being recorded for the film, this cover would not appear in the final version, instead appearing on the film's accompanying soundtrack album. In a 2025 Tumblr Ask, Flansburgh would recall the cover's creation[1]:
It was a fun experience, but a bit overwhelming-and song got left on the editing room floor of the film although I hear it was a cool sequence. Crazy.
Dan Levine, who has done a lot of that kind of work, did the arrangement, and helped us out immeasurably on the session. Niffer Clark does the wild "Star Trek" style vocals, and Robin Goldwasser provided some nice harmonies to my vocal on the track. For a song that comes in at two minutes it is a three-course meal!
