Trivia/Info

  • A cover of the 1924 song by Irving Berlin, which was later popularized in the 1954 film There's No Business Like Show Business. According to the Johns, this cover is based on the 1924 recording of "Lazy" by the Brox Sisters, which featured additional lyrics by Berlin. In TMBG's recording, Flansburgh sings these verses.
  • TMBG's cover, which was released 100 years after the original song, was recorded for WNYC's 2024 Public Song Project, part of host Alison Stewart's show All of It. The project encourages artists to cover public domain songs, with the 2024 edition specifically focusing on works from the 1920s. TMBG's cover debuted on the April 2, 2024 edition of the show.
  • The artwork was made by David Cowles, and is a reinterpretation of the artwork that accompanied the original Irving Berlin sheet music, presented in the style of the 1968 animated Beatles film, Yellow Submarine.
  • TMBG announced on WNYC that the song would be released to streaming on April 19, with a 7" single forthcoming.
