Helen Gurley Brown

Helen Gurley Brown (February 18, 1922 – August 13, 2012) was an author and long-time editor-in-chief for Cosmopolitan magazine. She is referenced in the They Might Be Giants song "She Thinks She's Edith Head" as a "cultural figure we don't know a lot about".

Helen Gurley Brown was known for her many literary contributions to the world of sex. From Swingin' Chicks of the 60s:

Though Helen Gurley Brown didn't invent sex, she sure made it more fun for generations of women who read her best-selling books and enjoyed her dynamic work as Editor in Chief of Cosmopolitan magazine.[1]
