Talk:Then: The Earlier Years
This cemented my fandom
Amazingly, my local library has this album in their collection. Somebody who worked there must have been a huge fan--I can't imagine any other reason why it would be there. I checked it out often in the early 2000s (probably one of the few who did). Suffice it to say, I was hooked. With obscure but charming material like "Weep Day" and "Hey Mr. DJ" it surely did more than anything else to rope me in to this glorious fandom. --MisterMe (talk) 17:17, 9 April 2016 (EDT)

"It was done using the technique we used in the 90s. We had to take the inked drawing down to the photostat guy and he would print it on a clear sheet of celluloid, like they used to make Popeye cartoons. Then we'd turn it over and paint the back so that the color would be behind the inked lines, using special cartooning paint. Danny Hellman (who I will unblock after trump's impeachment, assassination, removal or arrest) taught me this technique. We would then hand deliver the finished piece to the client. Lots of walking around through the streets of Manhattan. I was young and healthy and I loved it, it was my first actual career. For this drawing, which appeared on the inside of a TMBG CD, I cheated. The beautiful sky behind the boat was painted by the great painter Fitz Hugh Lane. I ripped it out of a calendar. There was a tall mast that went up the center of the painting, which is covered by the mast holding up the bird house. I carefully taped it to the back with scotch tape at the edges. No one busted me, and hailed my sky painting abilities. Ha ha!! SUCKERS!!!" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.66.14.179 (talk) 15:53, January 17, 2017
