Talk:TMBG-Inspired Art

From This Might Be A Wiki

September 27, 2004: Belay that order, boson. Having now seen The Giants in concert, it would be plain obscene to post anything pornographic using their likenesses as a jumping off point. I had been amusing myself by putting two interesting looking men into a dirty story, using ideas from their lyrics. I didn't stop to think that such a fun writing exercise might be objectifying or rude.

It is both.  :( I apologize to the wiki community and to Johns F. and L. for what I was thinking of posting. An imaginative filthy story about fictional characters on TV, made to share with people you know, is reasonable, if silly, adult amusement. It is not appropriate to use real people you don't know and then broadcast it publically. Again, sorry everybody.

September 13, 2004: You're the boss. Whatever preserves the gentle character of this place is best. I certainly wouldn't want to accidentally expose anyone young or delicate to anything shocking. (Christina)

September 7, 2004: I liked the story about a young Mr. Linnell picking up worms after the rain. Neato. <Raises hand and waves it around> I have a question? Being bored, I have written some adult-ish fan fiction with all the regulation dirty-but-tiresome angst and explicit sexual situations. This site is very G-rated, so I didn't want to post anything beyond a little implied cannibalism and spoil the family mood here. Where do people post this stuff on the web? --(Christina Miller)

Hmm... interesting question. I do wish to preserve the kid-friendly atmosphere here. I personally believe that this is one of the strengths of the site. However, I'm all for open expression. I'll talk it over with Brad and see what he thinks.
Perhaps the solution is to create a special area where all pages start with a special string which could be filtered if needed. (Example: ADULT-My Dr. Worm Fantasy) Also, perhaps the template for such works could contain a disclaimer at the top, also making it easy to know that what follows is for adults only. This disclaimer is important because many people find us through search engine results. -SR
Imagine an inappropriately adult fiction here. Possible titles might include:

"Dr. Worm is an Hermaphrodite"

"The Statue Got Me High Then Took Me Back to His Place"

"Hall of Head"

"Lucky Ball & Chain & Latex & Gag"

"Women and Men and Women"

"Paternity Suit"

"I Palindrome I in the Bathroom with The Door Locked"

"She's Actual Size (38DD)"

"If I Wasn't Shy About Three Inches"

"What Are Those Blue Things Doing Here?"

"Out of Jailbait"

"Doing XTC with Adam Ant"

and the wildly popular "Till My **** Falls Off"

(Moved from another page that someone created)

August 22, 2004: I don't get it. What's Sea Cloud9 have to do with They Might Be Giants? I don't want to remove it if there's an explaination for it.

March 4, 2004: Before anyone gets too upset by my submission, "Touch the Puppethead:1Corinthians 11:14," you should know that I'm a religious man myself who takes his relationship to God very seriously. Trust me, any cultural artifact which sends the viewer to the Bible is art of which even Jesus Christ himself would approve, and as a TMBG fan, I get to make fun of anything.

Thanks to Veloso for the Bible reference, although he had NOTHING to do with the creation or submission of this work.

Let me remind Wikians that I'm glad to receive polite email at kdillon@cableone.net. --Flux

Concerning Nat's piece ("Am I Awake?"), serious or long-time fans will recognize the anagram in the background. I don't want to spoil this piece for anybody, but I can say that it's a re-arrangement of the letters in the words, "THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS."

Nice job, Nat. It's nice to know that TMBG fans also create work, which, like the band itself, rewards close and repeated exposure. I don't see you in the contributor list, but it's an honor having you aboard. Have you considered naming that piece after the solved anagram, or would that spoil it? --Flux

I'm still a semi-new fan, so maybe someone would like to answer a question about Nat's first submission, "They Might Be Rarities 2." I didn't see anything similar in the collage by TimMierz, or mentioned on the Albums page, but I'm familiar with TMBG's "Battle of the Bands." If this project has already yielded an album, I'd like to own it, but maybe that's just Nat being enigmatic. If that's the case, I hope to see submitted soon "They Might Be Rarities" (the first).

By the way, the background detail in "They Might Be Rarities 2" is fascinating for anyone who cares to blow it up (no pun intended). To download, XP users need only hover the cursor over the image and then click the "Save This Image" icon which appears after a few seconds. 200% magnification shows the "Flight Path, Bomb Release and Bomb Path" of an old-style battle plan illustration.

Again, Nat, nice work. I like pineapple, especially in Pina Coladas. I hope you submit more peices. It's great stuff to look at. --Flux

P.S., I'm refraining from comment on why the cannon is pointing from Linnell towards Flansburgh. And does anyone care to hazzard speculation about why the "Flight Path" leads to the mouth on Linnell's profile, or why the "Bomb Path" makes a near-miss of Flansburgh's pipe?

I don't exactly know who else is, but I am in favor of a TMBG-Inspired Art table of contents page, separating the poems and images onto different pages, then each individual artwork on its own page. I am in favor of this because I have a poem I want to submit, but it's somewhat fairly L O N G. It would be very awkward to have to scroll down the entire thing to get to other artworks. Does anyone else want to do this, or should I do it myself?--My Evil Twin's Twin

My Evil Twin's Twin: I just addded sort of a table of contents to the TMBG-Inspired Art page. Is it close to what you were talking about? You can change it if you want. I really want to see your poem! --Flux

Flux: I just submitted my poem, called Dizzy TMBG, and I also separated your poem and my poem onto different pages. I like what you did, and I finished what I meant. But for the TMBG-Inspired Art/Images page, I don't exactly know how to separate all those images onto different pages. So if you know what I'm saying, and you know what to do, you can do that if you want. --My Evil Twin's Twin

Note to Wikians: My Evil Twin's Twin's TMBG-inspired poem, "Dizzy TMBG," led me to compose a short essay of praise in honor of such enlightened fandom. You'll find it, as well as an author-provided bio (including a well-crafted list of Top-100 TMBG songs), on My Evil Twin's Twin's contributor page. --Flux

I am thinking of starting a website where tmbg fan fiction of all ratings would be acceptable. Anybody who is interested in contributing or helping build the sight, please let me know. jjddm_fan@ yahoo.com
