Nice that this interview is archived on TMBW, but can we ax this page? What's the point, exactly? Unless, of course, we start cataloging every single interview and article, which I would love to get into, but I don't think TMBW is the venue. Apollo (colloquia!) 02:32, 16 December 2014 (EST)
- I'd love to get into it too. Why is it inappropriate to document interviews here? I'm really asking; I'm not trying to be argumentative. I think it would be pretty cool but there must be a reason it hasn't been done until now and I don't know what it is. Sonderling (talk) 18:41, 16 December 2014 (EST)
- i feel like it could very quickly become unwieldy. obviously it is an enormous task due to the sheer number of articles, and it seems unnecessary to take up so much space on the wiki with something that doesn't actually need to be user-edited (like show pages). i also don't think the format of the site lends itself to the sort of presentation that would work best. like, in my opinion, WikiNews suffers pretty heavily, in single-article views, from being laid out like an encyclopedia rather than a news source. i think there are just a lot of hoops we would have to jump through for it to work on the wiki, and it would just lend itself more to being an independent venture.
- i think the ideal set-up would be if articles were archived as a searchable database, which is also not possible, as far as i know, within the scope of wiki markup. what i'm saying is, what i have in mind to do at some point (perhaps this will be motivation to finally get the ball rolling) is not really possible with TMBW as the venue. but of course, if y'all wanna do a separate thing here on TMBW then that's not really fully my decision! - There is also a questionable copyright issue in reproducing interviews in full. Unless we wanted to set about obtaining permission from all the places/people who posted/conducted the interviews, we'd be safer to stick to excerpting relevant passages onto the appropriate wiki pages. I have seen some other sites out in the world that work as a database for quotes, categorizing them by topic and making them searchable, which is an interesting work around and could be something to explore as a more dynamic way of archiving interview information in another venue. (Not that that adds anything to the question of whether this page should exist, which I tend to agree it shouldn't.) BlueCanary (talk) 00:25, 17 December 2014 (EST)
- that is very true and yeah i think while we have been sanctioned by the band to include high-resolution images of artwork and promo photos, i don't think it's a good idea for TMBW to infringe on other people's copyrights (even if i may or may not end up doing so in my own project). - Would anyone else be interested in making quote pages for songs? If we did that we could include quotes from concerts distributed via bootleg and they wouldn't stick out so much like they kind of do on song pages, and with the site being user edited we could sorta fix transcription errors. It seems like gathering quotes is kind of frowned-upon on song pages here for the sake of avoiding clutter, which makes me sad, because I'd be very interested in reading everything John Flansburgh ever said about Meet James Ensor, for example. (Including times he was obviously kidding. I mean, just for the sake of cataloging everything.) This would be sooo fun to build up.... Sonderling (talk) 10:11, 17 December 2014 (EST)
- Psst... hope I'm not holding up the page deletion by having asked this question here. Obviously nobody jumped on it, so there's my answer! Sonderling (talk) 19:59, 21 December 2014 (EST)
