Template talk:Live Only

From This Might Be A Wiki

First off, I don't know if there's been discussion about this already, so my apologies if so-- I've been busy lately. But I'm just wondering this: What is the point of this template being put onto pages? As far as I can figure, it's redundant; if there's no definitive time, just leave it blank. It's sort of the same as filling in the "track number" line saying 'this song is not on an official album and therefore does not have a track number.' I just don't get the function of this template on the pages for songs only performed live. Also, I think I'm missing something about linking to the "what links here" special page for the song, but that's not really my point. ~ magbatz 20:20, 25 Jun 2006 (MDT)

If the run time field is left blank, someone's likely to fill it in with one of the recorded performances of the song circulating...and this is a much rarer occurance than the track number field being left blank. Truthfully, I think the track number field is completely irrelevant to the actual song and pretty pointless, but that's another story. As for the "What links here" link, click it on a song page like Space Krickets. It shows all of the performances of the song. :) -CapitalQtalk ♪ 20:29, 25 Jun 2006 (MDT)
Yeah, I thought about it keeping people from putting in the run time from some random performance, but my solution would have been to undo it each time-- but I guess that would get annoying. ~ magbatz
