Template talk:Download

From This Might Be A Wiki

I want to break the download links out of the main song pages, and put them onto their own "download" pages for each song. I'd like to kind of copy this idea from mp3.com... http://www.mp3.com/tracks/3551180/dl_streams.html

If people want to tinker with this template, please feel free. It looks horrible right now...I just started on it, and wanted to get something down. --Duke33 21:51, 14 Mar 2006 (CST)

Do you mean to put a link to that song's download page in the nav_stub? --badqueso 22:11, 14 Mar 2006 (CST)
Yeah, we'd do that, once we get this template sorted out and agreed upon. --Duke33 22:18, 14 Mar 2006 (CST)
I think your best bet would be to start a song's actual Download page and tweak it with actual data, then just blank the info and make that the template. That way we can have a working model of sorts and people can better see how it will work. --badqueso 22:40, 14 Mar 2006 (CST)

Myspace[edit]

Since a TMBG song being on Myspace is even more rare than a free MP3 of it being available on here, I don't think there should be a Myspace N/A box. Should we just add the Myspace listen/download row if the song is on Myspace, and otherwise leave it off completely? -CapitalQtalk ♪ 09:14, 20 Mar 2006 (CST)

I agree. Also, do you think that the tmbw.net links should be first? I think they should at least be after the Official Downloads and maybe even after the other paid ones like iTunes. And there's still the question of cell background color. --badqueso 10:16, 21 Mar 2006 (CST)
The TMBW downloads are first because they're from this website. Also, odds are that if a song is on the TMBW MP3 page, it's not on any of the others. As for the cell background color, it's being left alternating. -CapitalQtalk ♪ 10:24, 21 Mar 2006 (CST)

Almost Ready[edit]

I've almost got the bot ready to start parsing through the pages and moves the downloads to their own pages. Is everyone ok with the page layout before i do that? --Duke33 08:19, 22 Mar 2006 (CST)

I hadn't really been following the downloads template, so disregard this if it's coming in a bit late. But I just have two suggestions: 1) I think it might look a bit neater if all the cells in each row were the same length all the way down (like the "Site" column on each table/whatever all being the same length as each other and the "Download" column being the same length all the way through, if that makes sense) and 2) to add a row for the Clock Radio between the Dialasong.com part and the Myspace part with the "streaming" format. Magbatz 13:13, 22 Mar 2006 (CST)

I'm not sure what we would do for the clock radio...but if someone wants to create a template, i can include it in. I don't know how you would link to it, since it's a desktop app. But, if someone can figure out what to do, that's fine. Also, for making the columns line up - it's done now. --Duke33 14:17, 22 Mar 2006 (CST)
Thanks for doing the columns. And I see the problem with the clock radio, since you can't just click a link and open up the application. I suppose we could link to the page where it gives you the option of downloading it for Mac or Windows, but I don't know if that would fit the aim of the download template. ~Magbatz 14:40, 22 Mar 2006 (CST)... I guess I could go ahead with making one like that to see how that would be, and then anyone can just delete it or change it.

Song Versions[edit]

I was wondering what is going to be done concerning different versions of songs. Is each version going to have its own download page? Or are we going to redirect them all like we did with the chronology? I bring this up because of the Four Of Two (Demo) that has just been linked on the site. Is that link going to appear on the main song's download page? Or are we going to make a separate page for the demo? --badqueso 21:51, 24 Mar 2006 (CST)

Separate download pages for demos, as they're different recordings. A chronology page shows all of the versions of a song, which is why there's only one per song. -CapitalQtalk ♪ 22:00, 24 Mar 2006 (CST)

tmbg.com "SOUND" swf's[edit]

I guess we should add a download template for those lower-quality streaming songs listed at the tmbg.com page (most people I'm guessing know how to reach the flash files for each song). I have to go right now, though. ~ magbatz 12:30, 30 Apr 2006 (CDT)
