Talk:Songs Used In Commercials

From This Might Be A Wiki

Wasn't the version of Yeh Yeh for the commercial done by another band? TMBG's version is a cover too, so that would make it a cover of a cover, I suppose.

I saw a new Dunkin Donuts commercial yesterday featuring a song by Linnell, something about "human interest stories" on the news. Has anyone else seen it? --Martorano 12:30, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Yes! I saw it about 5 minutes ago while watching SNL. I think in the commercial, the "human interest stories" weren't distracting the people from getting Dunkin' Donuts coffee and whatnot. - (Firefly) 04:55, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Reggae??? - New Dunkin' Donuts commercial[edit]

Hi! I was watching tv and I saw a new Dunkin' Donuts commercial. It was in motel rooms and it had one person at a time looking at the camera while mouthing a song. Parts of it I caught were "I have no time for you and you have not time for me, human interest story" or something like that. The one part I know for sure went:

"wildebeest has no power over me"

It was really slow and mellow, not reggae in the sense of music, but in the sense of the slow singing. I called the Dunkin' Donut's information and all they said was that the band was They Might Be Giants. Can anyone help me out? I really like that song but I don't know the title or if it's even on an album (since they made songs specifically for the commercials.)

I haven't heard of it, and couldn't find anything posted to youtube or google video. I'm not sure what to tell you, as I think the press releases said that there would be eight songs, and I believe all eight have been accounted for...unless TMBG agreed to do more, based on the success of the campaign. You might ask Operator Dot, or Hill Holiday (website), who did the first round of ads. --Duke33 19:06, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
I know that I've heard at least three or four Dunkin' Donuts ads on the radio that were definitely not by TMBG. I haven't seen any new ones on TV, but if they have other artists making commercials, there's a possibility of it not being They Might Be Giants. --badqueso 19:38, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
I saw it last night during the Giants-Colts game, but didn't get it TIVO'ed unfortunately. I only heard it once, but it did sound like Linnell, to me. Let me email Operator Dot, and ask her about it. --Duke33 13:44, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
I saw it last night. It's mellow and mid-tempo, and it WAS sung by John Linnell. And I liked it. - Overjoy
I have it on tape. Yes. Dumb ol' VHS. I can transcribe the lyrics if anybody wants. I don't know what to call it, though. --Valerie 20:49, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Never mind about the name. I'm just dumb. XD--Valerie 20:55, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

I have called the Dunkin' Donuts customer service line two or three times. Each response is they do not know a name but that ALL DD commercials for the "America runs on Dunkin'" campaign are by TMBG. I suppose next step is to contact TMBG's reps to see if they have additional information.

More Coffee Goodness[edit]

I saw TWO MORE new Dunkin' Donuts ads! Both of them were sung by John Flansburgh...one is Spylike and it's called "New Job Interview." Then there's a very, very disco-like one called "Alarm Clock Catastrophe." I wonder if I'm the only one who has seen these. - Overjoy

I KEEP MISSING THEM! Two times within the last 24 hours I walked in as a Dunkin' Donuts commerical was ending! I'll try to catch them. --Lemita 01:20, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
There's another one, that i have on TIVO, and the lyrics go "lefty loosey, righty tighty"...I'll watch it again, and get a page set up for it. I'll probably transfer it to MP3 also, but it won't be great quality. --Duke33 13:22, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
