The "Laugh hard" reference

I was always under the impression - and I always give John L. credit for tremendous cleverness therein - that the line "Laugh hard, it's a long way to the bank" was also a reference to some bathroom graffiti I saw at college that I suspect was a widespread joke: "Flush twice: It's a long way to the cafeteria!"
