They Might Be Gaints, composed of John Flansburgh (guitar/vocals) and John Linnell (accordion/banjo/vocals) tape their tunes onto an answering machine. Dialling (718) 387-6962, gets you the song of the day.
The duo's self-titled debut album, on the independent Bar/None label contains 19 songs with names such as "Youth Culture Killed My Dog" and "(She was) A Hotel Detective." A review of the album in an April issue of Rolling Stone magazine said of the group, "They're going to have to create a whole new category of weird to contain They Might Be Giants." Admission to the show, which begins at 10 p.m. with Birmingham's $1.07 Band, is $4 for the public, $2 for University of Alabama at Birmingham students.
