Flansblog: "Hi everybody! John F of TMBG here!

I am writing all our Myspace folks directly to put the human face on this electronic stuff! Wanted to tell you the Myspace page has a couple of exciting new additions-including two songs off our brand new album The Else: "Take Out the Trash" and "Contrecoup". We have also put up "Birdhouse in Your Soul" for all of the old school fans, and the latest podcast (yes, the next one is coming up soooon).

Big thanks to the army of people who stepped up to the iTunes challenge and bought the pre-release this week and helped take The Else to #1 on the alternative chart! It is always humbling and startling to be on a chart, and number one is definitely the most exciting place of all. It really kick-started everybody in TMBGland working on promoting the album, and it was a great way to begin the whole project.

As we have wrapped up the first leg of our long touring schedule for this year, I can not express in words how excited we are to get back to the stage! The last show in San Diego was a perfect night of music for us, playing all the new songs, taking phone calls from the dead, etc. The show was sold out with a highly attentive audience very open to the new material. The previous night at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas was also interesting for a bunch of different reasons. The show was a gas, playing on a bill with some notably happening bands most especially the Plain White T's. Our resident guitar genius Dan Miller evidently went off to play blackjack after the show and won $230. Marty Beller, my personal Texas Hold 'Em coach and self-described degenerate gambler led me to the poker room where we filibustered into the wee hours. The other players at the table were out of central casting: the angry drunk guy, the Dennis/Randy Quaid hybrid dude, the elegantly coiffed Rosanne Barr lady, the card counting robot guy, the young guy in the Red Sox cap and big sideburns. Marty ended up $100 up, but only after being up over $200 so he still walked away a bit peeved, and I walked out with exactly nothing. Didn't win, didn't lose--just cashed in the $100 in chips I started with. The arc of my game was pretty simple. I lost a bunch at the top and clawed my way back until I was even, and then I went home. It was still a hell of a lot of fun, and I look forward to the next time--even though I bet I'll lose.

I am writing you from the studio right now where we are mixing songs for the "Here Come the 123s" DVD and CD. The song up right now is called "Roy G. Biv" (yes, it is unrelated to numbers!) and Greg T. is digging in to the microscopic elements of the recording, playing tiny blasts of music over and over again. It is a little insane-making so I'll put on the headphones and leave the sound off. Today we were also polishing up a live recording we made at Sirius last week, performing a lot of songs off The Else. It is cool to see how these songs evolve from the focused album-making versions to the live show-already a lot rowdier.

So I'm going to list all the upcoming shows here. We have evidently been having some programming problems getting the links just so, so if they don't work just call up your googley friend on your browser and I'm sure you'll find the site you're looking for.

See you at the shows!"
-Mr. John Flansburgh, direct from NYC
