- This demo version has live drums, which may have been performed by an unknown auditioning drummer[1] in the band's rehearsal space at DeKalb Avenue. In a 2019 Tumblr ask regarding the recording, John Flansburgh explained the process of recording drum sounds before the band began using drum machines:
There was a year or so before the drum machines really took over where we made many demos with a pretty wide open set of sounds-kick drums created with a [Micromoog] or on real drums, or by thumping a thumb on a microphone. Real snares, white noise snares. Some tape loops, some things that should have been.
