From This Might Be A Wiki

There really isn't much to say about me. I'm a student just entering college, and am a very big music lover (I have an absolutely ridiculous number of CDs. Probably well over 200 at this point) along with being a fan of Nintendo, per my nickname (especially oldschool Nintendo, such as the NES and SNES).

Like many other TMBG fans my age, my very first exposure to the group was through Tiny Toons. I had no idea who sang the songs at that point, I just knew at that time that I liked them and that the cartoons that went with them were funny.

My knowledge of the group then faded away to nothingness after this, and life went on as usual until I was exposed to the internet, where I eventually discovered that the people behind those songs from my childhood were none other than They Might Be Giants. After learning this and getting a lot of urging from a few friends online who loved the group, I bought a copy of Apollo 18 the summer before my junior year of high school and my musical tastes would never be the same again.

Prior to being exposed to TMBG, my attitude toward music was very casual. I owned only a few albums, many of which by popular bands of the moment (most of these having now been sold), and while I liked music, I had other things on my mind. TMBG ended up waking up something inside me, I think. Not to make it sound overly dramatic or overwrought (TMBG SAVED MY MARRIAGE AND MY LIFE! WITHOUT THEM, I'D BE DEAD IN THE GUTTER WITH NEEDLE TRACKS IN MY ARMS AND A BOTTLE OF CHEAP T-BIRD BY MY SIDE!), but they caused me to both get into music with more fervor and passion and cause my musical tastes to skew further and further from the mainstream.

I guess that's really about it. I found out about this site a few months ago, and I have added a few things (if not under my username, then with IP addresses featuring netonecom.net or gvsu.edu in them). Among the few things I've added are some comments, some bands to Other Bands You Might Like, a couple song interpretations, and info on the Dr. Spock bootleg. Otherwise, I haven't really added much yet. There are a few other things on this page, but they really don't matter that much. Come to think of it, this page doesn't matter much either.

Pertinent TMBG Loving Information

Since it probably matters to some exactly WHAT my thoughts on are various TMBG releases, I'll put it here.

Favorite Album: Lincoln
Favorite Song: Ana Ng
Least Favorite Album: Factory Showroom, though John Henry does come somewhat close
Least Favorite Song: As I can't think of one that inspires hatred in me the most, I'll say that at least a few that get on my nerves are Exquisite Dead Guy, Bastard Wants to Hit Me (though it might be too soon to say for that one), Hearing Aid, Swing Is a Word (though I'm not sure if I should count it), the horrible out-of-tune rendition of Ana Ng from Severe Tire Damage, and probably more when I can think of them.
Album I really wish TMBG would officially release already: Dr. Spock's Backup Band (really A+ live bootleg. Beats the everliving crap out of Severe Tire Damage (which would honestly be my least-favorite TMBG album if it were a studio release))
Flansburgh or Linnell?: Oh no, I'm not falling for THAT tired old argument.

Other Music Information

OTHER than TMBG, I like probably more bands than is honestly good for me. To give an overview of other artists I like, they are as follows (in no real order and with probably many more than is actually good for me):

Top Ten Albumy Things

Most of you probably don't care, but this is a constantly updated list of my 10 favorite albums. Some may cry foul over the relative lack of TMBG, but this is because I tried to, with some artists, choose the top album by said artist as opposed to having the list cluttered up by just two or three groups. Anyway, here we go (no particular order, of course.

  • They Might Be Giants - Lincoln
  • The Beatles - The White Album
  • The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
  • The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin
  • Radiohead - OK Computer
  • Pixies - Doolittle
  • Daniel Johnston - Songs of Pain
  • Frank Zappa & The Mothers - We're Only in It For the Money
  • Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane over the Sea
  • James Brown - Live at the Apollo

Honorable Mentions: Modest Mouse's The Moon & Antarctica, The Clash's London Calling, The Minutemen's Double Nickels on the Dime, The Breeders' Last Splash, Boredoms' Pop Tatari, Devo's Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!, Dead Kennedys' Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, Talking Heads' Remain In Light, The Vaselines' The Way of the Vaselines, Black Flag's Damaged, Ween's The Pod, Tom Waits' Rain Dogs, Sufjan Stevens' Greetings from Michigan, XTC's Skylarking, The Ramones' self titled debut, John Oswald's 69/96, Weezer's Blue Album, REM's Automatic for the People, Deerhoof's Apple O', The Shaggs' Philosopy of the World, Godspeed You Black Emperor's F#A# (Infinity), Neu!'s self titled debut, Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique, Public Enemy's It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, Bjork's Post

(above lists once again subject to change whenever)

And that's it. That's all there is to read. Go away.
