Not strictly an interpretation of the meaning of the song, but the oom-pah rhythm, the verse structure, the melody, and the way the lyrics find fault with the listener reminds me a lot of "Mr. Grinch" from the original cartoon version of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."
Sounds like...
Tom Waits "Yesterday Is Here". So similar, thought it was intentional...but no mention of it here.
