Hearing Aid
Sounds awfully familiar, better turn up my hearing aid to be sure --hashtag (talk) 07:49, 22 April 2015 (EDT)
- lol! I'm hearing a little bit of What Bothers The Spaceman? too. I suppose the name of the song is a clue. --Nehushtan (talk) 10:57, 3 August 2019 (EDT)
Exactly my thoughts. Also, pretty certain one of the synths on this is a Baldwin Fun Machine. Flans has used those in the past, and this sounds just like it. --Jaydn* (talk) 18:22, 7 May 2015 (EDT)
It is a fun machine, definitely.
With respect to Hearing Aid, I'm pretty sure that's just a passing similarity, which is enhanced by the rhythm of the line . I do not think that it's explicitly referencing it, it's probably unintentional, and I would consider taking that off of the main page.
At the very least, the text on the main page should remove the notion that it is a reference, when it's probably a coincidence and technically they're not even the same melody.
Of course, we could ask John.
Thoughts?
Flans just tumbld a response - apparently, they're not even real saxes on the track. Personally, I'm totally surprised.
The first time I heard this track I immediately thought of "They're all shouting something at us" from "Man, It's So Loud In Here" at the 0:16 point. Also, remember Flansburgh's comment about some Join Us sessions sounding like "Spike Jones and Kraftwerk falling down the staircase together"? That description perfectly fits this song, as well. This is one of my favorites on the album. - thevince 10 April 2015
Lead instrument
I am an absolute sucker for these instrumental songs that the Giants occasionally release and this is one of my favourite songs on the album. Not quite sure what the lead instrument is? Help. (Mr Tuck)
- soprano sax! in its lowest register. not sure what it's doubled on in the second half though (i'm leaning towards just pitch-down octave effect??) —Preceding unsigned comment added by J2 (talk • contribs) 14:00, April 22, 2015
- Thanks. It's very pretty isn't it? Like it. (Mr Tuck)
It's a second sax, probably tenor or baritone, doubling it. Doesn't sound pitch treated.
Iams
The accompanying video is not exactly something Iams would use as a ringing endorsement for their product, eh? ;-) It also makes me wonder if was it intentional or entirely coincidental that a chihuahua would be featured for a song released on Cinco de Mayo? --MisterMe (talk) 08:19, 5 May 2015 (EDT)
