TMBG's OTHER THING DEBUTS AT JOE'S PUB-THE PUBLIC THEATER SEPT. 28

They Might Be Giants' Other Thing is the third in the series of TMBG's "Quarterly Reports" at Joe's Pub, where the band creates a special event just for one special evening. They Might Be Giants' Other Thing finds the Johns joined by a small brass ensemble of tuba, trombone and trumpet (in the capable hands of none other than Mark "Loveman" Pender of the Conan show!). While the arrangements are new, the song selection spans the entire career of TMBG. A number of new selections will also be premiered at this very special event.
Tickets to these shows are limited, and are not advertised to the general public yet, so we're giving you--the email friends of TMBG-unique access to this very small set of shows. Please buy your tickets in advance, because of the never-ending heartbreak of transcontinental travelers who show up without a ticket, and the scalping dramas freak us out. Want to attend the TMBG's Other Thing premiere?

A NOTE FROM FLANSY - FREE MP3s- HUZZAH! - HOME MOVIES - BLACKOUT
We have not ONE but THREE FREE MP3s available to y'all at www.tmbg.com. (to download 'em just go to "featured" and then to the obliquely titled "sign") The songs, "Canada Haunts Me," "Pop-A-Shot" and "Anqui," are all included on the upcoming Book- On-Tape of Sarah Vowell's big book of essays "The Partly Cloudy Patriot" on Simon & Schuster.
Last week John L. and I went to Boston to record songs and voice-overs for an upcoming episode of the Cartoon Network's great animated series "Home Movies." We play a few different characters, including junior camp counselors at a performing arts camp (!). The show will include a number of spontaneously generated songs, one of which we'll be turning into something of a real one called "Taste the Fame."
As we drove home we arrived in NYC as night fell. As we came over a bridge on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway we got a little preview of the apocalypse as we gazed on all of NYC in the sunset without a single light on...yikes! Got a chance to drive around with no working traffic lights. There were some heartening moments-saw some self-deputized traffic dudes, and heard lots of pickin' parties and polka music played in near total darkness. That was cool. I don't know about everybody else, but now more than ever, I love electricity. _______________________________________

COMING IN OCT. TMBG and McSWEENEY'S INVADE LONDON on OCT. 4! "BED BED BED" BOOK and CD RELEASED ON SIMON & SCHUSTER. 4 NEW SONG. COOL PICTURE BOOK ILLUSTRATED BY ART SUPERSTAR MARCEL DZAMA! TICKET FOR TMBG KIDS SHOW AT SYMPHONY SPACE IN NYC GO ON SALE SEPT. 2 at TICKETSOMETHIN'! TMBG APPEAR ON "BLUE'S CLUES"! TMBG featured on "WIG IN A BOX"

TMBG is proud to announce we are joining our close show business friends Rufus Wainwright, Ben Folds and Ben Kweller, Sleater-Kinney, Frank Black, Yoko Ono, and Jonathan Richman among many, many other excellent artists for perhaps the best benefit disc so far in this very brief millennium. "Wig In A Box" is the songs from the off Broadway cult hit "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" covered by some great performers. All profits go to the Harvey Milk School, a unique public high school located in Manhattan for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered teens-so it's a great disc for a great cause. We recorded "The Long Grift," the ballad from the theatrical show that somehow didn't make it to the movie (even though it's many people's favorite). There will also be a DVD of the entire "making of" featuring an original puppet show-yes a puppet show-of "The Long Grift" created by none other than Robin "Goldie" Goldwasser. _______________________________________
