Lyrics Talk:Graveyard
The "lyrics" are different at the Boston show, which I purchased, and the Vancouver show, for which Graveyard is given in its entirety as a free sample. Graveyard is very improvisation-based, although the lyrics tend to stick more or less to a certain theme and structure, and the bits between the solos are the same. Also, in both of the recordings I heard, Flans gives particular attention to Marty, saying that Marty wants to hear the ladies scream, and then that he wants to hear the guys scream. (I, in my usual ADHD way, zoned out for a couple seconds and missed the comment about ladies, so I screamed anyway and only realized what I had done when I heard him ask the guys to scream in the next line. Now I get embarrassed every time I hear it. Anyway...) So I don't know what should be done for this lyrics page. Any ideas? --The Almighty Doer of Stuff 04:48, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
- Update! The bits between solos are not the same! While they are the same at Vancouver and Boston, they are different at the available-for-purchase-but-hidden Baltimore show. This version is a free sample for the Santa Cruz show, oddly. Also, there is no falsetto, but the basic "lyrical" structure is still the same. This will require some thought. --The Almighty Doer of Stuff 05:07, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
- This is a live-only crowd bit which does not have definitive lyrics. While it's true that the current given lyrics don't completely represent the song, there probably isn't any one performance (if that's what you would call it) that would capture it perfectly. And since it would be too weird to edit bits of the song and take averages and such to get the exact structure and essence of the song, it's best to just leave an example of how it has gone. That said, though, if you have a version of it you want to use that you think is befitting of Graveyardliness, then I say you should definitely go ahead; the one that's there now was just randomly put in. ~ magbatz 07:25, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm... Well, the Boston and Vancouver recordings are a bit more drawn out with a few more audience screaming requests. The Baltimore show, however, is a bit shorter and simpler, like the lyrics currently on the lyrics page. Maybe it got more complex as the tour dragged on. If we can get some perspective on earlier and later shows, perhaps a particular version could be selected as most representative. For now, we can leave it. Perhaps the "editor's note" should be taken out of the first person and moved into the Lyrics field. For instance, "(Editor's Note: "Graveyard" is an improvised, live-only band introduction, and thus the lyrics vary between shows. These lyrics are an example from one show." Or maybe it's not important at all. I'm not too familiar with how things like this are handled around here, new as I am. --The Almighty Doer of Stuff 19:51, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
