User talk:Nosaj56

From This Might Be A Wiki

Hey, Nosaj. I don't do AIM but I'd be willing to trade songs with you. Post me a message or email me. --Blarjotunn

i'm a bit busy right now. (i know it sounds like i'm ditching you.) give me a few days. -Nosaj56 08:05, 4 Oct 2005 (EDT)

Hey Nosaj. Thanks for the songs. I'm downloading them right now. As for my end of the bargain, I could upload some of the stuff in a compressed file pretty easily, since they are already mp3s. I'm not quite through with PODAS and Stumpbox 1 because the guy I got them from had them transfered from tape so they were each one long mp3 file. I'm working on splitting them up, but I could give you the big file if you want it right away. I don't have a place I could upload stuff to, so if you know anywhere that would be good, or I could just send them in the mail on CDRs. Thanks! --BlarJotunn

Hey, I tried uploading part of PODAS at yousendit. Did it work? (I won't try again until I know it worked.) --BlarJotunn

[edit] Run Time

Saw your note about the run time...I've always thought we needed it too, but frankly, i've been too lazy to go in and add it. I really shouldn't have been though...It took me about 3 minutes to set it up with the bot, and set up the cronjob...Pretty easy really. If you have time to add that info to the song pages, that would be great! --Duke33 10:37, 21 Nov 2005 (EST)

[edit] Venue Song Images

Thanks for the venue song images...the pages look great! --Duke33 15:16, 27 Nov 2005 (EST)

[edit] Show Trading

Saw your msg on my talk page...sorry..i'm actually not much of a live show trader. The only ones that i really have are the ones that i have been too. Sorry!

--Duke33 21:52, 27 Nov 2005 (EST)

Hey, I discovered your website with a few TMBG videos that I haven't found elsewhere. Would it be okay with you if I posted the links to the videos on the song pages? -magbatz

Haven't seen the site so I don't know what videos in particular we're talking about, but I'm wondering under what authority are you distributing TMBG videos on the web? -TDK 12:10, 22 Dec 2005 (EST)

we're talking about twelve of Their music videos. I have no authority to distribute Their videos. I thought it wouldn't be that big of a deal. -Nosaj56 13:35, 22 Dec 2005 (EST)

You thought that it would be fine to host the majority of Direct From Brooklyn? You've got the videos online, in their entirety. The band sells those.. -TDK 13:44, 22 Dec 2005 (EST)

hmm, well, so far my friends and myself have been the only ones to visit my page. I've used the videos to introduce my friends to TMBG. I don't have a 4 gigabyte image of Direct From Brooklyn up to download. that would be wrong. so, I think having 320x240 low resolution music videos on a personal website isn't a problem. nope. -Nosaj56 13:50, 22 Dec 2005 (EST)

Your website is accessible on Google, and though the resolution is low, it hosts a copyrighted DVD in its near-entirety. As for only your friends visiting, the hit counter reads 174 at the moment, and I doubt anyone has that many close friends. 320x240 also happens to be the perfect resolution for the iPod video, and since your videos are encoded with Quicktime, anyone can swipe them and have the whole thing in iTunes without TMBG getting a cent. -CapitalQ 15:47, 22 Dec 2005 (EST)

Okay, so far you've only shared the vidoes with your friends.. as if that makes it okay. But didn't you just tell another user to start linking to the videos here, on the wiki? And, resolution is not an issue. Nope. -TDK 21:22, 22 Dec 2005 (EST)

Okay. For all you little copyright vigilantes out there thinking that you're so amazing and that you're defending your favorite band- i've got news for you. You're really not. At all. You can pretend that you're making a difference in the sea copyright violations, then you've got quite an imagination. If TMBG wants the videos taken down, a C&D takes about 12 seconds to serve to nosaj56. Your little argument here is laughable. Frankly, I don't think the band is really concerned at all about getting an extra 80 cents per music video sold on iTunes. TMBG isn't exactly bad off you know. I think new fans are much more valuble than the margin they get off of selling videos. Don't you agree? Not everyone has a disposible income which allows them to watch everything they want to watch, or listen everything they want to listen to. You're the type of people who want to restrict art to the wealthier classes, aren't you? - remove

First off, the videos are not sold separately anywhere. They are sold all together on one DVD, which may be purchased directly from the band, giving them the full sales price. The only reason Nosaj56 has not been asked to cease and decist is because prior to this conversation, not many people have went to the website in question, and almost certainly not the band themselves. The band can be easily tipped off about the website, which would then lead to its removal, but it seems more logical and considerate to request the webmaster to remove it first. As for your comment about 'restricting art' to wealthier classes; if Nosaj56 wants to burn a few copies of Direct from Brooklyn among his close friends and not tell anyone, there's not an incredible amount of harm done. However, if he's going to rip the DVD and upload it to the internet for public viewing, there is a problem. TMBG has been nice enough to put a select few videos on tmbg.com for viewing, and those are the only ones that should be viewable online. You seem to think Linnell and Flansburgh are rich and don't need the royalties, but there have been interviews which pretty much entirely counteract that statement.-CapitalQ 19:17, 25 Dec 2005 (EST)

I call bullshit, "CapitalQ". According to the New Yorker: "The Giants gross between one and two million dollars a year, a sum that would barely cover Mariah Carey's manicure budget, but which, even after expenses, provides Flansburgh and Linnell with a tidy income and that most elusive of commodities artistic freedom. They probably won't ever get filthy rich, but they do earn a comfortable living doing exactly what they want to do"-- they're not struggling at all. Don't try to pretend like a couple of well off musicians are like charity. As for your little reply/"suggestion" about buying copies of a dvd- you just proved my point. if Nosaj56 does not have the disposible income to buy copies of the dvd and send it to his friends (of whom i am one- and I live nowhere near him), pay postage and everything, then he shouldn't be allowed to enjoy art. You just proved my point. Elitist. - remove

I actually said "burn copies," not buy copies. -CapitalQ

The way I've always looked at it is that it's a lot less about money then it is about respect. It's debatable whether or not TMBG actually lose any money from this kind of thing, and there's really no way to know just how well off They are. Put all that aside for the moment and take a look around this wiki. You'll quickly discover that full, commercially available songs are not accessible for download either on this site or via external links, except the latter when an official or legal option is available, such as tmbg.com or iTunes. This is because we respect the band and their wishes to not have their for-sale material traded on the web.

If you want to trade your TMBG stuff privately with a friend, that's your business and if the band loses money over that, there's very little to be done about it. But at least you're not displaying your actions for all to see in a public place like this. If you ask me, I think that the Nosaj's page should go away, and nothing personal against him. But at the very least, it is without a doubt inappropriate to link to those videos here, on the wiki. I don't know if Duke has been following this argument, but I'm reasonably sure that he would agree. -TDK 08:40, 27 Dec 2005 (EST)

I've decided to take down the videos. if I do want to introduce a friend to TMBG in the future, I'll let them borrow my copy of Direct From Brooklyn. you can see that as of the moment I post this message my page no longer exists. -Nosaj56 09:18, 27 Dec 2005 (EST) (<-I don't know why my name is showing up bold. the wiki is surely acting weirdly these days.)

[edit] not able to connect

Hey there, I've been trying to connect to your ftp and it keeps timing out on me. Anyway the files are ready but I guess I can't get them to you tonight; I'll try again tomorrow. Sorry for the delay! — aliste 17:47, 11 May 2006 (CDT)

Still not working for me. :( I've tried from 2 different computers/IPs with no success. I'm able to connect to other servers, so it's rather mysterious that I can't get to yours...I'll be on IM tomorrow around midday, so perhaps we can get together and try to work it through then. Sorry about this! — aliste 18:52, 11 May 2006 (CDT)

[edit] HOLY CRAP I FOUND THE DVD

It was under my keyboard. Not sure why I decided to lift it up at that moment, since it weighs about sixty pounds, but it is there! The disc's in good condition, but I'm gonna clean it. I'll probably be on AIM, so send me a message with the location of your awesome program and I'll finally get you the show.

[edit] 9-15-1998 show

If you're trying to find a copy of the show, I don't have it. I just read through "Jim"'s review of the show on the show page and made a setlist out of it. It does look like an excellent show though, so hopefully it's out there somewhere. ~ magbatz 03:40, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Piece Of Dirt - Lucky Ball And Chain Medley

You gave me TMBG Unlimited and on the month August month Piece of Dirt - Lucky Ball and Chain Medley is cut off about a minute into the song, is this a problem with my computer or is it the mp3 player? -- Goodtimes2 (Not Logged In)

[edit] hello

Hey, just wanted to let you know, I haven't been taping, so I don't have anything new for you. Sorry. — aliste 21:13, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
