You may have noticed Wikipedia's random page search link on the left of their site. The same affect can be acheived here using [[1]] (try it!). This link added to our left navigator would be a fun addition to the site, and it would provide idlers with a means to explore parts of the wiki they wouldn't normally find. This promotes a healthy presentation of fresh material to some blocked minds, furthing the greatness of the wiki. On top of that, Wikipedia binds this link to Alt-X to expedite random page viewing.
The code is already there; all you have to do is add the link to the left navigator frame. How convenient! -- TheBlunderbuss 19:38, 14 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Alternatively, one can use a keyword search.
You open the site, right click on the search bar, click Add a Keyword Search..., name it, and then pick a string to separate it from other keyword searches.
For example, you could put the string as "tmbg" for this site and "imdb" for imdb.com. When you enter this into the address bar, followed by a space, you can input directly into those searches.
Also, if there are more options to the form by way of, say, a pull-down menu, the effects change. If an imdb person keyword search is desired, select the People option from the pull=down menu, add the Keyword search (eg "imdbppl") and you've separated the general search from the people search!
I think this method is faster and better than a pull-down plugin, so it should be mentioned on the plugin page
-Something I've encountered (and saw coming) during my ventures into the chronology pages is the phenomenon of the medley. These songs have two chronologies from which to draw their history, yet when one clicks on its chronology link, it only lists the chronology of one of the songs. I've put together a page for Chronology:Doctor Worm / The Famous Polka (Live) as a separate page, not a redirect. I guess I'm asking for your input here. What do you think of it? Should the songs be listed by year (as they usually are) or by song (perhaps the first song's chron. on the top and the second song's on the bottom) or should this page simply be a type of disambiguation page with links to both song's chronology (see They Got Lost) [Now that I'm typing this up, this seems like the better idea]. Is this even a good idea? Any other ideas? I'll wait for a comment before I do any others.
As an aside; I noticed that it now takes two cartrige returns (Enter) for that lovely blank space between the table and the nav stub. --badqueso 01:08, 8 Aug 2005 (EDT)

hey, I seem to have found a problem with the bot. it hasn't been been linking up the chronology pages of alternate versions to the main ones. I seen that you've been doing that yourself manually. it would be nice if you could set it up to continually update chronology pages (add run time, year, and differences info every six hours) and link up an alternate version of a song if it is not already there. I see that it was a previous project. -Nosaj56 11:04, 22 Dec 2005 (EST)

I noticed while fiddling with my preferences and trying out all the skins that we've somehow got a tagline (or something like that) that says "The Free Encyclopedia" which is Wikipedia's subtitle. This was when I was using the Cologne Blue skin. Right at the top left under a giant "This Might Be A Wiki" banner were the words "The Free Encyclopedia." Since you've been deep inside the guts and inner workings of the wiki lately (I assume that's required during a server move) I figured you could change it while you're in there. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 17:02, 20 Jan 2006 (EST)

If you go to the Favorite Songs page, and click on any song with a "/" in its name, you're brought to an error page. If you take the URL produced when you click something with a slash, and replace the %2F with a slash, it works, so fixing that shouldn't be too hard. Yo man! I was at the show at 2005-07-23 and I just got on to TMBW.
On the Main Talk discussion page, someone was talking about how it's not immediately obvious which album the track number corresponds to on each song page, especially when there's 5 or more albums listed, and I agree with him. Sometimes, like in the case of Token Back To Brooklyn, the first album listed isn't actually the one that the track number represents. I was thinking that a great way to show which album the track number was for would be to make the album's name bold on each song page. I bolded Long Tall Weekend on Token Back To Brooklyn's page to see how it looks, and it came out great. If you like the idea as well, do you think it'd be a good task for ThisMightBeABot? -CapitalQ / @ / 09:32, 6 Mar 2006 (CST)
Right now the Song votes, Contributions and Show attendance babels all have a flaw, they use {{PAGENAME}} in the URL. Normally it's not a problem, but if a user has more than one word in their name, the babel won't work properly. Instead, it'll link to a page with the first word of their name, and put the other words into the text displayed in the babel. I can't think of any easy fix for this, but if using Pagename put underscores where spaces normally were, the problem would be fixed. Could that be done/is it worth it? -CapitalQ / @ / 07:18, 10 Mar 2006 (CST)

I'm not sure what exactly you're doing right now, but I've got nothing to do and would be happy to help with your mindless-task-looking-thing if you'd like. I've got iTunes, so I'm guessing I could help do it. ~ magbatz
I think that somehow our ideas got miss communicated. I come from a performance art background and know a little about what was happening in NYC just before TMBG formed. I thought that some of the connections between the two would be useful here. When I first wrote the articles about this, that were later edited by others including Magbatz and CapitolQ, a couple of the original links got deleted. I think this is what made you think that it was vandalism. I am sorry for the confusion, but I would never intend to vandalize such a great wiki and repository of information about my favorite band. This is a wiki, and I understand that you can edit as you wish. That is cool; I just don't want to be labeled a vandal, as that is truly and utterly contrary to my intent. I am very sorry I missed the old deleted link and did not better inform the content of the song theme pages in which the songs reside.
Do you like my new template?
No, it's They Got Lost (Live STD). Flans called the band that.
YES IT WAS! (and if it isn't, then who is it?)
It seems that the lyrics extension is once again placing itself on the bottom of any random page of the wiki (even special pages like Recent changes), this time more frequently than last. In fact, there's like a one in ten chance that it doesn't happen. Just take a look. Mega-yikes. :x -CapitalQ / @ / 18:05, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

All signs point to a string not being properly escaped - wherever that's supposed to happen - before being fed to SQL.
ImageMagick probably needs to be upgraded. pngs should resize fine after that. Alternatively, it may be resulting from compression artifacts created by converting a jpeg to png. Some, like Image:LongTallWeekendCover.png, resize superbly. Others, like Image:Different town.PNG, don't. I'll see if I can't get to the bottom of it. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 22:06, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

I was enjoying the new shows search engine and I noticed a glitch which may or may not be a result of it. On this page the venue should be Slim's, and in some of the links to it it is correctly labeled. But on the page itself it claims to be Amoeba Records - the location of a mini-concert earlier that day. Attempting to edit the page shows the correct entry of Slim's. Ditto this page which should have the venue as The Edge but lists it as a radio concert from earlier the same day. Any idea what's up? -Tisher 07:11, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

On the Show Attendance By User function, there was a whole bunch of extra text related to shows next to the Joe's Pub night concert [4]. I'm not at all sure why it does that (it only seems to be for this one user); just pointing it out. ~ magbatz
Another thing about the shows function... On a setlist search for a song (eg, Special:SetlistSearch?queryText=Ant), the results for the venues and for the cities are sent back to the setlist search, instead of to the show search. ~ magbatz 00:12, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi there! I'm a longtime TMBG fan, but not very involved in the online fandom. I just stumbled upon your terrific site because I was looking for an spam-ad free lyrics resource to link to when quoting TMBG in a totally unrelated journal post...
What I was wondering is if your MediaWiki extensions for tracking concert histories are available for use on other wikis, under any sort of free licensing?
I have recently begun moving my hand-maintained chronology for another band into a Wikia site so that others can help with it, but even as an experienced Wikipedian I was daunted by the level of template wizardry that would be required to get some of the "database-like" capability that I was hoping for. Your functionality is exactly what I was hoping for! Wikia's pretty good about installing user-requested extensions, so it would be wonderful if you are willing to share the code; of course I understand if you are not.
Please let me know what you think on my talk page or by email. Thanks very much! Artslave 18:03, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

When ordered by their ratings, the bands with more than 10 votes are being placed after the bands with less than 10 votes, and it's the same with bands with more than 20 votes. I hope that observation helps. :-)

Great site guys, terrific resource.
Short version: I want and cannot find the release dates (and/or recording dates) for Then: The Earlier Years bonus tracks.
Long version: I'm really anal retentive about iTunes so I always fill in the fields on the tags with the correct information, cover art from the first release of the song (as opposed to a greatest hits) so on and so on. Particularly I like to sort songs by year and while I know Lincoln came out in 88, EP release dates, etc. I can find no other "year" data for the bonus tracks except 1997, the compilation release date!!! Since NONE of these tracks were recorded near '97 this is annoying. I don't really need the specific month or day or hour, just the year that songs like The Big Big Whoredom, Doris Cunningham, etc. were actually recorded (or put on Dial-A-Song.) I've looked everywhere - this wiki, the official sites, Wikipedia, Google searches to infinity, and I'm coming up with nothing. Can you help point me to this data? THANKS!
I forget the link to the list of users, but if User:Binky1984 recently registered, his/her Welcome speech was for some reason posted to the page Binky1984 instead of User talk:Binky1984. ~ magbatz 16:33, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
