Talk:They Might Be Giants (Album)/Release Details

From This Might Be A Wiki

I have an LP version of this album that has 1988 as the release date and Bar/None - Restless as the label. It does not a picture of the Johns on the LP label. It's plain pink with just the song names, the album title and the label logos. It comes with a lyric sheet. I added all of the info on this page but I don't know anything else about it. If anybody knows anything about this add it to this page. --Inunaota4a 05:47, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

This is the record with release number 772603-1. It is either the First Canadian release or another American release (the one right under it on release details), but I am leaning towards it being the Canadian release. I even question the existence of the US release on the list right before the first Canadian release. --RipRitchie 04:39, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

I'm going to merge the two...if anyone objects, please let us know. --Duke33 20:17, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi! I was trying to find the CD version I own in this list, and I cannot quite match it up accurately. My copy has a label number printed on the tray insert flaps reading "A-HAON 002" (the same as indicated for a vinyl edition). The UPC on the back is 032862000225. The insert is highly glossy and was printed in Canada. The CD itself has "MADE IN USA -- SHAPE OPTIMEDIA, INC." etched in the inner circle and has the matrix code ESD-80042 SOI01. Anyone know when this CD was released in the timeline?

hmmm... very interesting. does it have the bar/none and/or restless logo on the back? --ant 07:10, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
as an addendum, i should add that mostly everything points to that being an ESD pressing except for the presence of the A-HAON 002 and a UPC... the ESD pressings don't have UPCs... the text on the inner circle though is in fact identical to the ESD disc that i have here with me (my bar/none copy being several miles away). just to confuse things further though, the matrix code is not a definite sign of anything; my bar/none pressing of the Don't Let's Start CD in fact has text on the disc saying "shape optimedia" and a matrix code beginning with "ESD-". perhaps if you could take some photographs of the back and disc, that would help us (or at least, me). --ant 07:16, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for responding so quickly and for being interested. Here are my scans: Tray CD Outside Cover Pages 6 and 7

very cool! that looks like an "true" bar/none pressing before the distribution with restless! we didn't know about this one (which is why we didn't have it), so i've added it to the release details. thanks for the info! --ant 03:33, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
Say, I like a bank with a chick singer. I'm sorry, that was irrelevant.-Apollo (oh no!) 03:30, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

This website lists a Canadian LP version, A-Haon 002 and released through Ouida Bailey Music / Bar/None records. Wout 22:45, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
that's pretty definitely the normal US release. i've seen a lot of sellers misled by the "printed in canada" labeling. --ant 22:46, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
