Talk:Spine

From This Might Be A Wiki

Another beautiful song that clocks in under a minute. (Mr Tuck)

In the battle of Linnell's Spine v Flans Spines, Linnell comes off second best. Luckily it's all over within a minute. - Zack

Sounds familiar. (Mr Tuck)

I think neither Spine nor Spines can exist without the other. The Spine Surfs Alone is the best anyway.

In my opinion, "Spine" is definitely better than "Spines." They complement each nicely other, though. -VoVat

where art thou andy and colin[edit]

as a dedicated xtc-ist, i have listened and relistened to this song searching for clues that this is a "style parody" (or even a "style homage") and have come up blank. i'm calling on the other folks here that are familiar with their stuff (looking at you, magbatz and badqueso among others) as to your opinion on this matter. --ant 15:30, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

The first thing that comes to mind is the baroquey Ballet for a Rainy Day (or even the following Umbrellas) on Skylarking, but it doesn't seem spot-on. I'll think more about it later... but the voice Linnell employs really would call attention to being an XTC thingy, so good call. ~ magbatz 19:33, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
listening to ballet, i see a sort of vague similarity, but it's rather upbeat whereas spine is... well, just weird. i can sort of see that warbly andyness in linnell's voice there, but the accent (or lack thereof) makes it a bit fuzzy... on the other hand, i might just be rorschaching it. (is that a verb?) --ant 20:26, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Yeh, I just saw this description and was also very "WTF" about it. I've never even heard Linnell established as an XTC fan, I thought it was pretty much just Flans that was (I wouldn't be surprised if he were, though). --Self Called Nowhere 01:51, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
I agree with Antgeth. Spine seems to be on the 'normal' end of the spectrum for TMBG, and extremely bizarre for XTC. If you try to put your finger on exactly what is XTC-ish about it, you will find very little. You have to step back and just listen to the song as a whole (if you understand what I am saying). The melody sounds like something XTC might have played around with at the time of Wasp Star, if you ask me. --DidgeGuy 03:12, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
