Talk:Songs Incorrectly Attributed To TMBG

From This Might Be A Wiki

RRhoid Boyz[edit]

Hey, I Am Retarded doesn't necessarily mock mentally handicapped people. It could mean they're a little crazy in a fun way.

(aka mocking them)
It's not even doing that... the title is the only lyric...

you are wrong my friend[edit]

when you said they might be giants didn't write the song backyardigians they actualy wrote this they have also wrote the theme song to another kids show known as higgly town heroes ok and incase you're retarded for the past 3 years tmbg has been writing songs like this ok

The end of the show has Evan Lurie credited as having written the theme music.
Calm yourself, it's going to be ok, feistiness is going to get you nowhere.

I can't find my eye[edit]

Is this the same song as "Somebody took my eyeball"

No. STME is actually a Giants song, from TMBG Unlimited.

Redirect pages[edit]

Someone should go through and make pages for these songs that redirect here, it'll make searching for them somewhat less confusing. I sorta started doing this, but for some reason I was only able to make one page... well, whatever.

Star Wars Cantina[edit]

A friend of mine has a copy of Star Wars Cantina that's labeled as being by TMBG. Can someone tell me who originally did the song, and possibly put it up on the list for me? Thanks in advance. :) ~Anna Ng hears your words. 06:18, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

The song was originally done by Mark Jonathan Davis. krueger
Thank you so much! ^^ And man, that was fast editing there! Thanks again! ~Anna Ng hears your words. 07:00, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Two unknown songs[edit]

I have found two songs that were labeled as being by TMBG. Unfortunatley, they are not. The titles of these songs are: The Death of Optimus Prime and Weekend Drinking. Can anyone be extremely helpful and tell me the true artists of these songs? --Josherz 16:00, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

The Death of Optimus Prime is by a band called Mr. McFeely. That one was much easier to find than the other, which is two common words that people seem to do a lot. And I got a few "Long Tall Weekend - Drinking" links, which is interesting. Moxy Fruvous, a band people seem to label as TMBG a fair amount, has a song called A Drinking Song that might be it. I haven't heard the song but lyrics would probably help. Try Google? --badqueso 22:32, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Sweet, that helps a ton!(and isn't Mr. McFeely the name of the mailman on Mr. Rogers Neighborhood?) hmm. And I figured out the the mystery of "weekend drinking," it's the song Drinkin' from Long Tall Weekend. Some idiot just labeled it incorrectly. (I guess that makes me an idiot for not noticing that earlier :-P) Anyway, thanks for helping out!--Josherz 22:36, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Songs wrongly attributed to TMBG[edit]

Can someone list the songs TMBG actually covered (even if they didn't write them)? That list seems somewhat extensive.

Do you mean songs in this list that They Might Be Giants has covered? None of them. For a general list of songs that TMBG has covered, see TMBG Remakes. -CapitalQtalk ♪ 00:25, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

The Flight of the Barking Death Squirell[edit]

I saw a poster in the window of my local gelato shop, some grade school was doing a performance (maybe a play, maybe a musical, I don't know, I didn't bother to remember) by this title. It's cool that I know they didn't think of the title themselves thanks to this page! :D

Can't Find My Eye[edit]

Why did someone revert my suggestion that Flans and Linnell COULD be performing on this song? I mean, has anyone listened to the damn thing? The Johns' voices stick out like a sore thumb, same vocal inflections and everything. And this is coming from someone who has listened to and collected TMBG for nearly two decades.

Care to post an MP3 of it? You could upload it to a file service like http://mediafire.com. I doubt it's TMBG but I'll take a listen to verify. -CapitalQtalk ♪ 23:56, 2 February 2012 (EST)
Free at their bandcamp page. There's no Johns to be seen. ~ magbatz 00:06, 3 February 2012 (EST)

The Incredible Shrinking Day/I'm Not Coming In Anymore[edit]

I encountered a song by the title of I'm Not Coming In Anymore, used in an Ed, Edd, and Eddy short called The Incredible Shrinking Day, being attributed to TMBG on Tumblr. Thing is, a quick listen shows that it's pretty clearly not by them--the vocalist sounds nothing like either John, or indeed anyone else in the band, and the song just doesn't have a particularly TMBGish sound in general. It's a good song, but it's pretty obviously misattributed. This wouldn't be such a problem if I had the slightest clue who the song was actually BY. A cursory Google search seems to attribute it to TMBG as well, but I'm 100% certain it's not by them. So my question is, who IS it by? I can't find any info on the artist...which sucks, because I'd honestly love to hear more of their stuff. --Warhammer Of Zillyhoo (talk) 15:56, 12 July 2013 (EDT)

you're right, it's not by them. i guess the confusion stems from the song they did for Courage The Cowardly Dog? anyway, it's also usually attributed to Stuart Hill, a fairly obscure artist, though i've no clue whether it's really him. best wishes. -Apollo (colloquia!) 16:39, 12 July 2013 (EDT)
I wouldn't be surprised if Courage (and probably Dee Dee And Dexter) had some role to play in the misattribution either...didn't really think of that at first, but your point seems pretty sound. Searching for Stuart Hill, it seems that I'm Not Coming In Anymore is pretty much his only real claim to fame. Kind of sad, I think, but oh well. Seems to have answered my question, so thank you so much! ---Warhammer Of Zillyhoo (talk) 21:25, 12 July 2013 (EDT)

Hi..my name is garrett freireich (another obscure artist) and I sang that song. The song itself was indeed written by Stuart Hill (talented guy and friend), but I did the vocals. It wasn't a "band" as we'd never performed together before, or since. I just came in and sang it. there....mystery solved.

Bootleg[edit]

Does the songs' presence on the WUFTM bootleg necessarily mean they were incorrectly attributed to TMBG? If it's a bootleg, there might not be rhyme or reason as to which tracks were included. --ColorOfInfinity (talk) 00:59, 20 March 2023 (EDT)
