Talk:Reading

May I argue that, because the phrase "don't let's start" appears in The Great Gatsby, "Don't Let's Start" shouldn't be under "central themes?" That's like saying that reading is the central theme of Stomp Box because it references Hamlet. You know? An allusion doesn't make the song a central theme. All in favor of moving Don't Let's Start...? --Lemita 20:34, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

I actually had a question about that particular entry. I was under the impression that "don't let's ____" was just a regular old method of phrasing something. Are we sure that "don't let's start" is unique to The Great Gatsby, or is there at least any indication that that was where the title of the song came from? -Apollo (Phoebus!) 22:15, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
Done; moved. Does anyone actually have the excerpt of The Great Gatsby containing the line? I searched the full text here and came up with nothing: http://www.grommersoft.com/greatgatsby/. -CapitalQtalk ♪ 22:50, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
I did a search on Google books and a couple other copies of the full text, but I didn't find anything either. The only correlation I can find between the song and the book is in Flushing Meadows park, and that is a bit of a stretch. -Apollo (Phoebus!) 23:05, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
If no one else digs anything up, I propose we remove the reference altogether. Could've been an accident. -CapitalQtalk ♪ 23:26, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
Haha, I didn't even look carefully at the actual entries on the page and missed this entirely. Yeh, I'm with you, totally awesome as the idea of one of my all-time fav songs and one of my all-time fav books being connected is. --Self Called Nowhere 02:08, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
IT WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT, i was reading the book just now, and in chapter 7 Tom says "What’s the matter, anyhow? If we’re going to town, let’s start." i believe this is what was being referenced, and it actually has nothing to do with the song, i'm sure, but at least perhaps the mystery is solved. and yes, upon reading the phrase my first thought was "hey, wasn't there something on the wiki about this book and dls?" -Apollo (colloquia!) 00:47, 7 June 2012 (EDT)

We ought to change the name of this to Books or to Literature or something, yea? ~ magbatz 11:02, 18 July 2011 (EDT)

I think "literature" would be good. It definitely needs to be changed. - Apollo (colloquia!) 12:04, 18 July 2011 (EDT)
